Trader Joe’s, Sex Toys and Long-Lost Friends

Saturday

Saturday was a busy little day. It felt like I didn’t have a minute of free time where I could just sit down and relax.

After my workout, I tagged along with my momma while she got her haircut before we swung over for a shopping spree at Trader Joe’s. I believe it’s the first TJ’s in New Hampshire, and it recently opened, so we were excited to check it out.

I loved the set-up of the produce, although the center aisles were very compact and I had to wait in line to select my Fuji apples. It didn’t help that we went on a Saturday afternoon, as we felt like the entire city of Nashua was shopping with us.

I even came across Brussels Sprouts on a stick! I couldn’t not take a picture with this little big guy. It was so cute and something I had never seen before. I guess I always thought that Brussels Sprouts just came in a bag. 😉

After seeing Roasted Seaweed on many blogger’s pages, I was excited when I came across snack size bags for $.99! I grabbed one and ripped into once we were driving home to test them out.

My first bite resulted in tiny seaweed flakes on my shirt, and the post-bite left a slimy feeling in my mouth. I powered through about half of the pouch before I couldn’t do it anymore. The seaweed was a little too salty and “weird” for me. Overall I’m happy that I gave them a shot, but I would much rather snack on baked sweet potatoes with PB2.

After my sweet potato and peanut butter fix, I ventured over to the gym for a quick cardio workout that included a 1 mile run, 15 minutes on the vertical elliptical and weights.

When I got into my car after my workout, I looked out the side mirror and had a beautiful and breathless view. I couldn’t have parked any more perfect. I felt like I was in a photoshopped moment.

After showering, I enjoyed a powerbowl for dinner, which included Chobani Vanilla yogurt, chia seeds, fresh strawberries, flax-seed, finely diced walnuts and raw oatmeal.

My powerbowl hit the spot and left me feeling nice and full before I headed up North to my friend Chris’ Sex Toy party put on my Athena’s. I’ve been to one of these parties years ago, and just like the first time, I went more so for the company. Chris and I used to work together last year, and I hadn’t seen her since the end of January when I left that job, so I was really excited to spend time with her and catch up.

I ended up being the last one to leave, and stayed a good hour and a half after her friends left. We talked about our ex’s and got into the juicy details of how we both lost who we thought were the “loves of our lives,” we discussed work and also just life and our past coworkers. It was so good to see Chris and we’re both making sure we get together more often!

I arrived home around 9:30 and at that point, I was DEAD tired. I felt so guilty because I had about 4 friends who were texting me but I was so exhausted that by 10:20 I passed out, leaving 4 conversations hanging.

I’m a Vermonta, I Do What I Wanta!

Last night I overindulged a little too much around dinner time.

I started off with a Chocolate Peanut Butter Banana protein shake.

Ingredients:

  • 1 scoop each of chocolate and vanilla protein
  • 1-1   ½ cups vanilla almond milk
  • Handful of spinach
  • 1 TBSP PB2
  • Handful of mini ice cubes
  • 2 frozen banana slices

This one was extra peanut buttery and hit the spot.

That’s when the trouble started. I spied a ginormous sweet potato in the pantry so I decided to microwave it for meals and snacks for the rest of the week. Lately peanut butter smothered sweet potatoes have been popping up religiously on the blogging scene, so in honor of Peanut Butter Lovers Month, I decided to try one bite of the sweet potato with pb. One bite turned into half of the sweet potato with an unjustifiable amount of peanut butter.

Opps.

After a few scoops of Cool Whip (double oops), I tamed my sweet tooth and hopped on the treadmill and walked for 1.3 miles before cozying up on the couch while I caught up on Modern Family.

I called it an early night and slept from 9:30 pm until 5:25 am. Such a good night’s rest. When I woke up, we had snow!

As I mentioned yesterday, I only like the first snowfall and snow on Christmas Eve and Christmas day, so at this point, it can go away until December 24th.

My run was tough, but I was able to cover 3.8 miles before I focused on my core. Apparently Jake wasn’t happy that I was planking instead of petting him because in the middle of my plank, he lunged at me and wrapped his claws around my forearm. Considering I just cleaned his litter box last night, he’s GROUNDED!

Morning Workout

  • 3.8 mile run
  • 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 1 minute regular plank straight arm hold and 30 seconds left and right side plank holds
  • 50 scissors
  • 100s Abs
  • 50 lying down side foot touches

It felt great but I feel rather gross today. I’m kicking myself for last night’s feast! I have a date tomorrow night so I NEED to get my act together and focus on eating clean. There’s nothing worse than not feeling your best or attractive on a date.

This morning I read one of Julie’s older posts about feeling guilty for eating the same meal over and over again and posting it on the blog. Julie mentions how she feels like she should be switching her meals up for her blog but then realized that it’s not right to change her eating habits solely for her blog. I’ve felt the exact same way with always eating my Raspberry Mango Overnight Oats, but you know what, it’s what I want, it’s the best combo that fills me up for work and I love it.

Back when I lived in Vermont we used to say, “I’m a Vermonta, I do what I wanta!” Well, I might not live in Vermont anymore, but I’m still gonna do what I wanta! So stew over that while I enjoy my bowl of oats.

Back to me feeling like a lard ass today. I had high hopes of getting in a sweaty cardio session on my lunch, but I’m bummed because it’s sleeting/raining out right now. I’m thinking the 3 minute walk through slush will be worth it in the end though! I really wish we had an enclosed catwalk leading from our building to our parking lot, but since we don’t, it’s a good thing I keep a pair of old Nikes in my office for those walks in inclement weather.

Time to go brave the elements! Catch you guys later on. 🙂

You Crazy Paleos!

Yesterday I did a lot of research on eating Paleo, and I have to admit, I quickly became intrigued in the Paleo lifestyle. After scouring blogs for recipes, advice, and the benefits associated with eating clean, I decided I was going to give it a go with a few tweaks.

Since I’m obsessed with my Chobani, that is one thing I refuse to give up. No way, can’t take the ooey goodness of the ‘bani away from me.

Gimme That Chobani!

I also don’t plan on stressing too much if I’m out-of-town or at an event and I’m not able to eat strictly Paleo. Of course I will do my best to stick to the guidelines, but it’s not worth stressing over something that you might not be able to control. Although, I am one of those people who always packs safety snacks in case I get hungry. I’ve been known to randomly pull a banana out of my purse. 😛

You can also bet that I plan on having a few more vanilla soft serves with rainbow jimmies before summer is over. Sue me.

Since I started today with a healthy mindset, and knew I wasn’t allowed to eat my go-to breakfast of Quaker’s Banana Bread oatmeal (sad), I made this delicious breakfast after my morning workout instead. I decided to revamp my typical scrambled eggs with sweet potatoes, spinach, and some of the leftover spaghetti squash I had in my fridge.

It’s a Sweet Potato Morning

I have to say, this was absolutely delicious and the sweet potatoes stole the show. Next time I plan on adding a little more cinnamon to the potatoes. This might just be a breakfast staple.

Sweet Potato Scramble

  • Half a sweet potato, diced
  • 1 egg and 2 egg whites
  • Spinach, as much as you want
  • Spaghetti Squash
  • Cinnamon

1. Peel the skin off of the sweet potato, poke holes with a knife in the potato, and microwave for 7 minutes

2. Spray a pan and while letting it warm up, cut your sweet potato in half, dice into cubes and sprinkle a little cinnamon on the cubes

3. When warm, let your sweet potatoes cook for a minute, then add your egg mixture, spinach and spaghetti squash

4. When it looks perfect, gobble it up!

Last but not least, my morning workout!

Morning Workout

  • 3 mile run – DEATH
  • Stretching
  • 50 crunches, 50 side-to-side crunches
  • 25 reverse crunches
  • 2 sets of 13 squats with shoulder press, 8 lb. dumbbells

That was it! Short but effective.
