Overcoming Coworkers Negativity Towards Healthy Eating Habits

The fact that I’m blogging while laying on my foam roller should be a good indication of how my legs are feeling after yesterday and today’s workout. Today I had my legs and arm workout, and originally I was worried how I’d do with my squats and step-ups since my legs were so tight, but once I warmed up on the elliptical for 10 minutes and got into my workout, the pain actually was unnoticeable.

I was able to get through the entire workout, minus 15 of my 35 minutes of cardio and 1 set of step-ups. I figure since tomorrow is an all cardio day that I can make it up then, along with those awful step-ups.

After my workout I enjoyed a homemade deluxe turkey sandwich.

The sandwich looks pretty monstrous but don’t be fooled, the lettuce was larger than life and bursting with volume.

Roughly 20 minutes after eating my lunch, my coworker Nichole, who is also an amazing baker, invited everyone to our department to celebrate Travis’ birthday with a peanut butter pie. It looked so delicious, but since I wasn’t hungry and treated myself last night with cheesecake, a piece of pie was the last thing I wanted to put into my body.

Every single time there is cake or cupcakes in the office I am given such a hard time because I don’t want to eat it because I’m either not hungry or I don’t want to wreak havoc on my healthy choices. Once again I was harassed today for not eating a slice of pie. While I know my coworkers, especially Nichole aren’t doing it to be mean, part of me believes that there is an underlying issue or unhappiness in their life where they try to make me feel bad for putting good food in my body.

I believe that we do need to treat ourselves every now and then so that we don’t feel deprived and go psycho when we come face-to-face with a box of Oreos. For me, treating myself includes several pieces of chocolate or an extra scoop of peanut butter, but ONLY when I crave it or feel like it’s been earned.

Some times the badgering gets so bad that I just grab a slice or cupcake to shut everyone up. Today I stood my ground and was involved in the celebration, just not eating the cake, and you know what, I was proud and happy that I stood my ground because I felt pretty amazing after and didn’t feel weighed down.

Have you guys ever been guilted in to eating or doing something you truly didn’t want to do or eat? If so, how do you overcome that negative attitude that’s directed at you?

It’s difficult to have coworkers who harp on me for eating healthy foods, but the only thing I can do is know that eating that way makes me feel good about myself, and at the end of the day that’s the only thing that matters.

Once I was able to escape the pie lovers, I buzzed into the gym quickly because it’s Member Appreciation Day and Muscle Milk was there giving out free drinks.

Sometimes it pays to be indecisive because the 2 girls working for Muscle Milk let me take 2 drinks for free since I couldn’t decide.

I went with Muscle Milk Light in Vanilla Latte, which has caffeine and thought this would make for a delicious breakfast, and I also chose Strawberries and Cream, thinking this would be a great afternoon protein pick me up. The girls recommended the Light chocolate, but because I’ve had it already and have chocolate protein shakes all the time, I wanted to try something new. 🙂

Since getting home from work I’ve literally done nothing except eat yogurt and peanut butter. Oh and foam roll these sore legs. I’m anxiously awaiting the finale of Dancing with the Stars, but I really am not sure how I’ll make it up until 11 pm. Why do they make these things so late?!

All I want to do is see Kelly & Val win the Mirror Ball trophy and declare their love for one another!

Until then, it’s Lifetime Christmas movie time. 🙂

Beets & Gorilla Glue.. I’d Cap That

Last night after work I had nothing planned, and was excited to have the opportunity to kick back and relax for the night. Have a little me time and not worry about meetings, rushing around to meet people or to run errands. I also wanted a break from my computer, hence the no blog post last night.

I have some catching up to do! For a relaxing evening, I feel like I sure didn’t relax too much. Every Thursday, a local farm owner brings a box of veggies to two ladies in my office, one being my marketing coworker, Jen. Since both Jen and Judy were on vacation, they allowed Nichole and I to divvy up the veggies. That might have been the highlight of my day. I walked away with purple tomatoes (?!), which I demolished before leaving work, 3 beets, green beans, and some type of lettuce.

I’ve been wanting to try beets for quite a bit now so I jumped on the opportunity to snag those babies. After scrubbing those suckers down, I wrapped them in tinfoil with baby carrots and a little olive oil, and baked them for what seemed like 50 or so minutes at 375. I wasn’t hungry when they came out of the oven, so the final verdict will come tonight!

While my beets and carrots were roasting, I walked a mile on my treadmill while trying to read my Runner’s World magazine. Eventually I gave up and watched How I Met Your Mother. That show kills me! I then proceeded to have a little DIY repair project to salvage my iPod band for just a little bit longer. Yes, I did get a considerable amount of Gorilla Glue on my fingers. It’s still stuck on my fingers and beyond annoying. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen Goo Gone around the office a few weeks ago so I might conduct a search party shortly.

While I was talking to my friend in bed last night, he introduced me to an app on the iPhone called, “I’d Cap That.” You can take a picture or choose one from your phone’s library or off of Facebook, and it will put a random caption on it. You can choose to refresh the caption once, but I found a way around it. Some of the captions aren’t for young kids eyes, but there are also some really funny ones.

That was my favorite I got last night! It’s completely true too. 🙂 I cannot stop using this app, talk about a quick addiction! Side note: When I went to add the tag for this, I accidentally wrote, “I’d Tap That.” Geez, looks like we all know where my mind is!

This morning I woke up 3 minutes before my alarm went off. In my head I was hoping that when I glanced at my phone that I’d still have a few more hours of sleep ahead of me. NOPE! Don’t you just hate those moments? I seem to get them quite often. I’ve also been waking up at midnight on the dot the past few nights this week. What gives?! I don’t remember the last time I fully slept through the nite.

This mornings workout was much better than yesterdays. I squeezed in a 3.4 mile run, got my planks in, additional core work, and then alternated between sets of squats and jump rope.

Morning Workout

  • 3.4 mile run
  • 2 sets of 1 minute plank holds
  • 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
  • 50 crunches and 50 side-to-side crunches
  • 13 squats with overhead 8 lb. dumbbell press, followed by 50 jump ropes, repeated twice
  • Stretching

The quick workout felt good, and am very eager to get quality workouts in this weekend. This morning also marks the first day of trying my new Herbalife protein! I ordered the Cookies & Cream flavor, and once I received it I was apprehensive about the taste, thinking that it’d be too sweet, but ya know what? It is the bomb diggity! The shake is incredible, and while it is sweet, it’s not excessively sweet.

Cookies & Cream Protein Shake

  • 2 scoops of Herbalife Cookies & Cream Protein
  • 3/4 cup of skim milk… I was all out of my Almond Milk
  • additional water
  • Ice cubes
  • a heaping scoop of Fage 2% Plain Greek Yogurt

As part of the program I am beginning as of right now, I will be consuming two protein shakes a day, a protein-filled snack and a regular dinner. Or you could choose your meal to be breakfast or lunch, it really depends on what you’re craving that day. These shakes are supposed to help increase your protein (well duh Allie!), curb your hunger and help you lose the weight you’re looking to shed. I’m extremely excited about this program and being a Herbalife distributor.

I made a big purchase last night of various Herbalife products, including: French Vanilla protein powder, Dutch Chocolate protein powder, vanilla almond, chocolate peanut butter, and chocolate coconut protein bars, vitamins, Vitamin C face moisturizer (super excited!) and various other products. Once I receive my humungo box of goodies next week, I’ll showcase all of the items.

Hope everyone’s Friday is off to a great start so far! I’m so excited for the weekend and to take charge of my health!

Smoothie Overload!

By the time I left work yesterday I was pretty sure I was going to go to bed upon walking through the front door at 5:25. This girl was tired and needed sleep. Instead of being a complete waste of life, I made a wicked (shhh I’m from New England) good sandwich on a sandwich thin. I had 2 slices of turkey, a slice of american cheese and a slice of ham, toasted in the toaster oven. This baby served alllll my needs.

Turkey, Ham & Cheese Melt

I had actually planned on having a tuna melt, and not to drop names, but a certain male in the house only left about 2 bites of tuna in the container. Dude, finish the damn tuna if that’s all you’re gonna leave! Actually, I’m not one to talk. I left 3 of those chocolate covered acai berries left in the bag. I thought if I ACTUALLY finished the bag I’d be considered a fat ass.

After dinner, I changed and headed over to Primetime Wellness Club to pick up 2 smoothies. One for dessert and one for today’s breakfast. I ended up ordering the Butterfinger, which wasn’t as good as the others I’ve tried, and the french toast smoothie for this morning. I think the Butterfinger smoothie just wasn’t think enough, almost as if there was just a little too much liquid in there.

4 Types of Heaven

I also received an aloe water which I enjoyed last night and is completely addicting, and a raspberry tea with aloe in it for today. You receive a tea for free with your smoothie so it’s a good deal when you pay $6.

I also forgot to mention that I came home to my new subscription of Fitness magazine! I’ve read it before and since I have enough fitness magazines, I knew I didn’t need another, however one day I received a postcard offering a year subscription for $5. I’m sorry but even if you only read 2 magazines a year, you’re still getting a deal. Subscription purchased.

One Year for $5. Deal of the Century!

Subscription received… WITH an exercise band. Score! I haven’t seen one of these since being in my memere’s old house back 16+ years ago.

This morning was a bitch. I went to bed early last night and took a sleeping aid and was out of it when I woke up, since the aid was still wearing off. My body felt beat. I’m blaming it on the additional plank exercises I added to my workout, and I wasn’t sure if my legs wanted to carry my on my run. Oh but they never fail and they did.

Morning Workout

  • 3.3 mile run
  • 1 minute plank
  • 20 mountain climbers
  • 50 crunches and 50 side-to-side crunches
  • 1 minute plank
  • 20 mountain climbers
  • Stretching
  • 100 jump ropes.. yes that’s the number of times I jumped with my imaginary rope 😉

My french toast protein shake made my morning 20 times better than yours. I’ll be ordering that sucker again.

8 hours and 15 minutes until I see this ridiculously gorgeous piece of meat man.

Oh Hello There

French Toast smoothie and Kip. Yes, be VERY jealous.

A Gorgeous New York City Fireman..

Last night I enjoyed a wild night out… at the library! Party on you crazies! Since I finished my book Monday night, I was really excited and anxious to start a new book. Sadly, since my library isn’t too big, several of the books I’m dying to read aren’t in. Several of these included Gone Girl, Skinny Dipping (ugh I LOVE Bethenny Frankel), and several other Paleo books. I really don’t like buying books at the store since usually I will only read it once, so I tend to stick to borrowing books from the library. Don’t get me wrong, I love browsing Barnes & Noble and wish I had the pocket change to drop bombs in the Noble, but it makes more sense for me to spend that $12-15 on other things… like clothes. 😉

I had made a list of books in the library I was interested in, and was going to narrow my list down once I was able to read the full book description, but instead, I came across a gem in the very last aisle. I present to you, Lime Ricky, by Jill Winters. It encompasses several of my favorite things. New York City, a hot man FIREMAN, and most of all, it’s a chick flick. This girl adores romantic comedies.. books or movies, I’m not picky. 😉

Give me that Hottie Fireman!

After reading the first 2 chapters in bed last night, I was hooked, but also falling asleep. By 9:30, (grandma!) I was dozing off, and decided to call it a night. I can’t wait to dig into it a little deeper tonight and truly immerse myself into it.

This morning I woke up feeling much better than yesterday. I busted out a 3.6 mile run and had plenty of time to get some other moves in. On a weekday morning, I consider “plenty of time” to be 10 minutes. I’m on a strict schedule. Alarm goes off at 5:35, I take 2 hits of my inhaler, ha!, hit snooze, up like a psycho at 5:42, then brush mah chompers, wash my face, get dressed and use the loo, and hopefully by 6:05 I’m taking my first step on my run. I like to be back on the living room floor by 6:50, but sometimes it’s 6:52, and stretch/work the core until 7:04 at the latest. Then it’s time to shower and get ready for work. If I’m out the door any later than 7:42, I panick. On a good day, I’m out by 7:38.

Morning Workout

  • 3.6 mile run & stretching
  • 50 crunches and 50 side-to-side crunches
  • 25 reverse crunches
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
  • 1 set of 13 standing side crunches with 8 lb. dumbbell – 1 set each side
  • 2 sets of 15, push ups

Breakfast this morning was a kick ass smoothie, consisting of vanilla protein, a heaping handful of spinach, dash of cinnamon, whopping pile of coco powder, a little bit of almond milk, water and ice.

Shake to yo Face

That bitch was SO good!

“Don’t Break Your Vagina!”

This afternoon I attended my first spinning class since the Fall of 2009, when I used to go junior year of college with my roommates. I was so excited that I skipped my lunch and left an hour early so I could make the 4:30 class. On my way out of the office, Jen called to me, “Don’t Break Your Vagina!” Thanks Jen, thanks.

When I got to the gym, I picked up my spinning tag, claimed a bike in the back row, and went for a quick 1.3 mile run before class began. When I got in there, I of course chose a bike with a broken adjuster so I looked like a tiny fool trying to adjust my seat. Luckily only three other girls were in there at the time. Before the instructor started, I talked with her and told her how I hadn’t gone spinning in years and asked her to make sure my seat adjustments were correct and for any pointers.

Work Those Legs, Girls!

Let me just tell you the class was amazing! There were several times I made myself slow down and not go all out the first time, as two instructors gave me the “take it easy the first few sessions” advice. I worked up a great sweat, and so did the man at the end, who proceeded to discard his shirt. Thank you buddy!

After spinning, Eve led the 5 of us who stayed through several core exercises. We did side planks, regular plank, hip dips during a plank, and several other exercises I can’t even begin to describe.

After a quick shower and a delicious protein shake, I headed over to my neighbors and hung out with Guenther. We played a little basketball, well I did while he coached me.

My Neighbors Have an AMAZING Basketball Court!

Can we just talk about how kick ass their basketball court is? My dream has come true… well for the week at least.

Off to go prepare tomorrows meal and dive into my book!
