M&M Dispenser on my Mind

I came home to no P90X sitting in my mailbox. I was sad. I was happy. I was sad I wasn’t going to get a killer (literally) workout in since I slacked on my lunch and ran 1.5 miles and spent the rest of the time in the sauna, but happy I was going to live another day.

Tomorrow is the day. Or at least that’s what the man trying to kill me told me tonight.

Instead of working out, I ran errands, ate grapes dunked in peanut butter and caught up with my “up on the times” uncle. Seriously, the man is on Voxer. If you haven’t downloaded it for your iPhone, you have to! It’s a mix between a phone call and a text. A 21st century walkie talkie. The man is ADDICTED to it and is voxing me multiple times a minute. Slow down mister!

In fun news, Saturday is going to be spent in New York City with my college roommates. Linds and I are leaving NH around 6:30 and getting our girl Nicole in Boston, and then meeting up with CTers Kate and Michelle in the City.

Senior Year, Graduation Weekend. Such Babies!

Yes, that’s me on the far left with a bob! Such a diva.

Hopefully our friend AJ will also make an appearance. If you don’t remember, I ran into him in Times Square last month. So random!

I’m so excited to spend the day with my girls, but more excited to stick my head under the peanut butter M&M dispenser.

Get In My Mouth!!

It doesn’t even faze me that these are about 4 times more expensive than in Target. They taste 20 times richer coming from the dispensers, and if you’re like me, you’ll eat about half your bag before getting to the register. Fat ass what?

Alright, time to go check the job board out. Yay! Ugh!

Not Fit for Cold Weather

I don’t know much, but one thing that I do know is that a good night’s sleep cures everything. Last night after blogging I went up for an early night. I’m not the biggest fan of watching TV in bed since I’m convinced the light and noise from the TV makes it harder for me to fall asleep, so I read while watching Dancing with the Stars on mute, and only unmuted it for the couples I wanted to see. I lost it when Drew Lachey had his shirt ripped open and started pumping his hips, and loved the way Val Chmerkovskiy threw around his partner in the Paso Dablo. Hubba hubba! All this pumping of the hips and male force… wait, sorry, this isn’t 50 Shades of Grey.

I was out cold somewhere between 9 and 9:20, and I don’t remember anything until my alarm went off this morning.

Before my run, I cleaned cat puke off my treadmill (thanks so much Jake), and talked with my best friend Allie who was waiting to board her flight to Florida with her girlfriend for a vacation…. A vacation that I COULD have been on. As I sit stone cold in my office, I am deeply regretting it now. Allie and Kris are awesome together, they’re so different but so alike and they aren’t all smoochy smoochy so it would have been like 3 best friends on vacation together, instead of me being the 3rd wheel, which I have grown accustomed to over the years.

Since they’ll be in Orlando for a week, it was a vacation that I wasn’t able to take, since my vacation accrues at the rate of 3.09 hours biweekly and I wouldn’t have had enough for a weeks’ vacation and other mini trips. Last month I had looked into flights and had contemplated catching a flight on a Thursday night to spend several days with them, but instead I’ll be in New York City this Saturday. Not a total loss. The college girls and I have a fun day planned around shopping and being complete tourists.

Wow, total rant. Soooo, after cleaning puke and talking with Allie, I went for a 3 mile run and threw some weights into my workout for the first time in a good 5 days. Oopps!

Morning Workout

• 3 mile run
• 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 1 minute plank hold
• 2 sets of 20 rock climbers
• 2 sets of 13 standing side dumbbell crunches, each side
• 2 sets of 13 skiing dumbbell squats
• 2 sets of 13 squats with overhead press
• 2 sets of 13 deadlifts
• Stretching

That workout left me out of breath!

I had a few extra minutes this morning so I stopped into the Farmer’s Market on my drive to work to pick up a few lemons.

I’ve had a serious craving for hot lemon water, and with the chilly fall temperatures here to stay, this was just what I needed. Plus, hot lemon water is great for cleansing your system. There’s Lewie with the double win!

I downed two mugs full of hot lemon water before having a couple bites of my overnight oats.

That’s a big lemon slice in there!

There’s something about extreme heat and cold weather that kills my appetite.

I need gloves and I also need to move somewhere warm. Both are 100% true. I’m not a fan of the cold or snow, except the first snow fall and snow on Christmas. Those two instances snow is welcome, other than that, I’m a hater. Since I’ll be looking for a creative firm in the near future, I think I’ll have to make sure to avoid companies in states with winter weather.

I got used to being on the California beaches in February and March.

This also happened in Cali, which was pretty cool.

West Coast is NOT the best coast. Being 4 hours behind friends and family and on the opposite side of the U.S was too much. East Coast is where it’s at!

Oh, back to reality. Brrrr baby it’s cold outside… and inside!

Saturday in New York City: Part 1

With the plan to hit the streets by 9, I set my alarm for 7 am, way too early to be waking up on a Saturday in my opinion, but I was anxious to get a run in before heading out for the days’ adventures. I was able to get a 3 mile run in, but since I was running out of time, I unfortunately wasn’t able to get any strength exercises in. I was happy with being able to keep my running streak going!

How awesome are the gym signs in the elevator?! That actually makes me WANT to workout.

I opted to make a protein shake with my new travel blender before leaving the hotel, but the others were craving a doughy New York bagel, so we walked a few blocks to Hot Bagel, a tiny bakery sandwiched between two hotels. They had muffin tins with the muffins freshly in them hanging from the walls, about 10 different cream cheese spreads and just as many types of bagels.

Nom nom nom! Everyone enjoyed their bagels while we took the sightseeing bus to Central Park, where we wandered throughout the different areas for a good hour and a half.

After watching a runner get taken out by a bicyclist (luckily she was able to walk away with a bloody thigh, elbow and left cheek) and visiting Strawberry Fields, where I sang the same verse over and over, we had planned to catch the sightseeing bus in the pick-up spot so we could head to Rockefeller Center, but a mile long parade was taken place which threw us off our game.

Instead, after already walking 3 miles, we continued on for another good mile to the Plaza, where we grabbed a hodgepodge of a lunch before heading back to our hotel.

When we got back to Times Square, there was a 3 block street market that we explored for about 30 minutes.

After that, it was back to our hotel to relax, refresh and munch on a few snacks before heading to  the 9/11 Memorial Site.

Friday in New York City

New York City is my favorite city in the world. There are endless possibilities, and I’m convinced you need AT LEAST month to be able to experience some of the best places and eateries the city has to offer.

After arriving at the W Hotel, a swanky hotel located in the heart of Times Square, we purchased tickets for the 48 Hour sightseeing busses and decided our first stop would be to Greenwich Village and SoHo. The 48 Hour tour gives you access to the Uptown and Downtown busses, the Night Tour bus, which is a 2 hour ride that brings you throughout the City and into Brooklyn.

We wandered around Greenwich, starving, sweaty and grumpy, and after about what felt like hours 20 minutes we finally agreed to eat lunch at Jane, a fun and vibrant corner restaurant.

A warm basket of bread was brought to our table which we all took turns dunking it into olive oil. Our meals arrived promptly and it wasn’t hard to plow through our entire meals.

I ordered the Baby Arugula Salad, which included grilled chicken, blue cheese, apple, pepitas, and sun-dried cranberries in a sherry vinaigrette. I also snacked on Ryan’s side of brussels sprouts. These were hands down the most flavorful and perfectly roasted brussels sprouts I’ve tasted.

We all left with full bellies and our grouchiness immediately vanished. It’s funny how eating a solid meal can dramatically change your mood.

We wandered around the area a little more and checked out several of the stores that interested us. We took the sightseeing bus back to our hotel where we met up with Chelsey, who had to spend the day working in the hotel.

Since I hadn’t had the opportunity to get a run in yet, I booked it to the hotel’s gym, where I completed a 2.5 mile run. It was a tough one, especially after walking around all day, but it felt good to get somewhat of a run in!

After freshening up, Ry, Chels and I crossed the street and grabbed a Pumpkin Spice Latte from Starbucks to share before catching the Night Tour, which is always my favorite touristy thing to do in the City.

By the time we made it back into Times Square it was 10 and we were all hungry for dinner. We walked several blocks up to Ellen’s Diner, which is run by aspiring Broadway actors and actresses who sing in between serving food and taking orders. It was such a vibrant and exciting environment, and we all raved about our experience.

I went crazy and ordered the Philly Cheesesteak and enjoyed the best, crunchy fries I’ve had in years! It felt so good to treat myself to an unhealthy meal as that was the one item that I had been craving.

We decided to walk around Times Square after dinner to burn off a little of our dinner and enjoy the atmosphere and shop the tourist stores.

On our walk back to our hotel, we were stopped at a corner and I happened to be looking behind us and made eye contact with AJ, one of my good friends from college who I met during our freshman year orientation.

AJ lives in New Jersey, but we couldn’t get over the fact that out of all the places and all the people in the City, that we happened to run into each other on the same corner. After talking for a brief minute and exchanging several long hugs, we said our goodbyes and went our separate ways. My way being into a comfy bed!
