Shopping, Bonfires and Friends

Yesterday was such a busy but fun day. I started off the afternoon with a little shopping fun with my best friend Lisha, who lives and works in Boston at Brigham & Women’s Hospital.

We met about halfway at the Merrimack Outlets and enjoyed catching up and shopping for cute new outfits. I didn’t end up buying anything, but we both came across this shirt at the Nike Outlet and both fell in love with it. Unfortunately since we both sweat so much when we workout, we prefer buying tanks and not shirts.

After several hours of shopping, we had to say goodbye, but we’re getting together with our other best friend from high school, Jenny and hopefully Jaime (I know you’re reading this so keep part of next weekend open)!

I freshened up when I got home and then headed over to my aunt and uncles for my cousin-in-laws 30th birthday party. My cousin Lindze, asked her husband Mike how he wanted to celebrate, and he said he just wanted all of his friends together for a BBQ and a night of drinking and hanging out. That’s my kind of man, simple and low-key! Lindze, however, always chooses dancing at a club for her birthday. So different but they are so perfect for each other.

Mike’s parents and brother Brian drove 4+ hours from Maine to celebrate with everyone, which was a very nice surprise. There was a lot of junk food, drinking and hours spent around the fire. While I didn’t have a drink besides my go-to water, I did enjoy a cookie and cupcake. I didn’t eat much earlier in the day so I didn’t feel bad about having a sweet or two.

Steph, Lindze’s best friend since high school, convinced my uncle to take a shot with her, while the birthday boy laughed and Janine accidentally photo bombed the picture. Hey, a girl just wanted to shine a little light on the party.

Janine is fun, funny and wild! She’s also a runner and always posts ridiculously delicious looking meals on Instragram (thepurplegirafeej9). It was nice to be able to talk with Janine about running, races and overcoming plateaus. She’s even trying to convince me to run the Renegade Playground next Saturday in lieu of Lindze, who cannot make it. It seems like so much fun but these types of races have always terrified me. I think it’s time to overcome some fears!

This morning I wasn’t feel too hot. Being sick and staying outside from 5 until midnight probably didn’t help, but sleeping in until 10 was much-needed. I ran a difficult 4 miles this morning, with “blow your nose” breaks every once in a while.

I nomed my way through this two-ingredient pancake that Tina from Carrot’s ‘n’ Cake is always blogging about. Holy crap was it amazing! Mash a banana with an egg and cook it like a pancake and you’ve got yourself a healthier version of the pancake. You’re welcome.

I’m about to run a few errands before hitting the gym for a vigorous workout. After that I think I see a couch and chick flicks with my name written all over it. Gotta love rainy, cold Fall days!

Too High Maintenance for Running Shoes

My alarm started singing at 5:40 am, and once again, it confused me. This week my brain keeps asking “Why are you getting up? It’s sleep time!” Once I realized it was still only Thursday, I took two puffs from my inhaler (yay to exercise induced asthma!), and hit snooze for 8 more minutes, just like every other morning. After the rude singing of my alarm, I rolled out of bed and threw on my running shoes and went for a 3.1 mile run.
Let me just tell you, this run was one word. Awful. Also referred to as brutal, painful, bitchin’. I’m not sure if my lil’ munchkin legs were a little tired, or if it can entirely be blamed on my shoes. I’ll say 20/80. The shoes, I hate to say it, aren’ going to cut it. They’re about .5 ounces heavier than what I’m used to, and I hate to sound high maintenance, but they won’t suffice. They also left the inside of my foot in a lot of pain. Nope. Not going to run 450 miles in those puppies. Sad sad day.But I think these are my next choice:

Saucony Progrid Kinvara 3

I tried them on last week at Dick’s Sporting Goods, my favorite store, and also a store I can never justify leaving without apparel or shoes, and loved them. I fell in love with them right away. Super light, but not too light, and extremely adorable, yet fierce. My only stuck-up was that they weren’t Nike, and like I said, I am very brand loyal to Nike and their Lunarfly shoe. I’ve check EVERY online store possible for the Lunarfly 2 and it looks like it was their time to stop being sold. Ugh. SOS. WTF. FML.

Breakfast consisted of my go-to workweek breakfast: Quaker’s Instant Banana Bread Oatmeal, with one Truvia packet and a spoonful of finely diced walnuts. You seriously can only use the finely diced walnuts in it. As much as I love eating whole walnuts (thanks for the addiction brother!), the finely diced are evenly incorporated into EVERY-SINGLE-BITE.
I haven’t had the biggest appetite today but wanted to get a little something something in me before hitting the gym on my lunch hour, so I grabbed my Mango Chobani yogurt, threw a few strawberries and half a blackberry (don’t ask), and whisked it together with a spoonful of uncooked oatmeal.

Hey mang-o, whatchya got there?

Now it’s off to my FIRST workout at Gold’s Gym. I’m extremely nervous, and told Jen, my coworker who got me into Gold’s, that I thought I was going to puke from nerves. After she drew me a cute little drawing of the gym (so I wouldn’t look like a lost girl on her first day of high school), I put on my big girl padded sports bra (hello fellllas!), and went for my workout. Let’s hope I make it out alive! ☺

I might be smiling, but I really want to puke!
