Brick Wall

Today marks day 20 of P90X and my body is TIRED! I struggled through my morning AND lunch time run, but I also have last nights’ Legs & Back P90X workout to blame for sore legs.

Morning Workout

  • 3.5 mile run
  • 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 1:32 straight-arm plank hold
  • 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
  • 100’s abs
  • 3 sets of 50 crunches: regular, left & right
  • Stretching

Being Friday, today marks a time trial day in the 4-Week Plank Challenge. On Monday I held the straight armed plank for 1:21, and today I beat it by 11 seconds. I’m slowly getting stronger, and while I know I should be able to hold it longer, my poor T-rex arms were shaking like a ‘quake!

I woke up exhausted to begin with and I knew that my lunchtime workout was basically just going to be a “break a sweat” type of session. Nothing strenuous; just a lil’ something something to get me moving.

By .60 miles into my afternoon run, my legs were on fire, and by my first mile I listened to my body and stopped. I was okay with stopping. The old me would have been stubborn and pushed through, but the new Allie knows it’s quality and not quantity that’s important. Sludging through extra miles won’t improve my endurance and strength.

Afternoon Workout

  • 1 mile run
  • 15 minutes vertical elliptical
  • 5 minute cool down walk

Lunch

For lunch I enjoyed leftovers from the past few days, and if you stopped by Running on Peanut Butter yesterday, you’ll recognize the meal. Slow cooker chicken with veggies and brown rice.

To be honest, I wasn’t in the mood for this meal. I wasn’t feeling my best, but I knew it was the right thing to do, and I secretly hopped that it would wake me up. It didn’t.

My body is hurting! I think if a pack of zombies began chasing me right now, not even my “fight or flight” senses would kick in to save my ass. To top it off, during the tail end of my afternoon run I managed to pinch a nerve in my right shoulder-blade, which is probably a result of my increase in strength training.

Today’s scheduled P90X workout is Kenpo X, with tomorrow being my day of rest, but based on how my body is currently feeling, I’m switching the two days around. There’s no use completing a workout if you cannot do it to your fullest potential.

CSI:NY!

On a positive note, I’m looking forward to a lazy and relaxing night which will be spent catching up on the bajillion shows I have on DVR (Married to Jonas, CSI:NY, Hocus Pocus, Kelly & Michael, Modern Family, Parks & Rec) and reading Gone Girl. It’s REALLY starting to get intense!

Before the lazy night starts, I’m running to the store to buy Christmas decorations and grab some food for the weekend. Girls gotta eat!

The Circus is in Town!

Wow, talk about a wild Wednesday, but before I even begin to get to the best parts, let me recap my afternoon workout. One word: tough! Yesterday’s R.I.P.P.E.D class caught up with my quickly, resulting in a struggle of a 1.5 mile run, sending my total mileage to 5 miles.

I contemplated hitting the stair master or the elliptical, but didn’t want to overwork my midget sore legs too much, so I hit the spinning room for a quick and tough 15 minute ride. I dripped more sweat in my personal 15 minute spin workout than I have in a 45 minute instructed spin class. Looks like there’s a new instructor in town suckas!

No core or strength workouts this afternoon, mainly because I was tight on time and already did my arms yesterday.

My stomach was a rumbling during my ride and wolfed down my leftover honey bbq grilled chicken and steamed carrots after showering up.

I work in an old mill building that has active trail tracks in between our building and where we have to park/Gold’s Gym. 5 minutes before leaving work, we heard the train crossing beep whatever the hell that’s called. Jen then yelled, “the circus is in town!”

Ha ha ha, she thinks she’s funny.

Guess what? The circus is in town. No, really, it is, and the trains carrying the animals stopped RIGHT in front of our path to get to our cars. Seriously!

The arena that puts on the show is several blocks down the road and apparently every year the trains block everyone in our buildings in, causing us to have to walk down the road, cross the street, and then walk back up the road to our cars. It’s basically one LONG ass walking U-turn.

Earlier today I was really craving those pumpkin pancakes, but after work I had absolutely zero appetite so I decided to run errands instead. An hour and a half and I couldn’t find Chia Seeds or Laughing Cow Cinnamon Cream Cheese Spread. I struck out completely! 😦 2 grocery stores failed me, but at least I have one last option tomorrow.

Do you guys have to go to multiple grocery stores to buy all your essentials?

When I got home, I whipped up breakfast for lunch tomorrow. Confuse you? I’m loving the breakfast foods for all meals lately. 🙂

Since I used all of the cottage cheese, I couldn’t make the Pumpkin Protein Pancakes, so I made the Banana-Oatmeal Pancakes in the latest issue of Fitness Magazine.

Banana-Oatmeal Pancakes (Fitness Magazine)

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups soy milk
  • 1 cup rolled oats
  • 2 bananas, chopped
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp plus 1 tsp baking powder

Directions

  1. In a blender, puree soy milk and oats until smooth. Add bananas, flour, 1/2 tsp kosher salt, and baking powder and puree a few seconds more. Let batter rest 10 minutes.
  2. Heat a large nonstick saute pan over medium heat and cook pancakes to your desired consistency.
  3. Top with sliced bananas and maple syrup or toppings of your choice.

These make 8 pancakes, but I decided to cut the recipe in half and came out with 4 pancakes.

I cannot wait to douse these mofos in syrup tomorrow! I’m thinking this will be my post-workout lunch.
