A Happy Heart

I’ve been a very bad bloggy girl the past few days. With the holidays, Ryan and Chelsey being home, and a new surprise in my life, I took several days to step away from blogging to focus on several more important things in my life.

I’ll work on my Christmas recap post a little later this evening, but I do have a little catching up to do for Christmas Eve and the day after Christmas.

Christmas Eve started with a sweaty and craptastic 3 mile run, and several back exercises on the cable machine. I originally had a workout that I really wanted to do, but the gym was a mad house and too many men were hogging all of the machines I wanted to use, so I stayed in the women’s gym and worked with what I could.

If you remember a previous post, I went out Saturday night and Sunday day with Mark, a new prospect in my life. Since we’re hitting it off ridiculously well, we couldn’t wait until yesterday to see each other, so we decided to spend the free time we had on Christmas Eve together. Since Ryan and Chelsey weren’t arriving into town until 3ish, I knew I had several free hours before our family festivities started. I headed over to Marks around noon and we spent the next 4 ½ hours watching movies and just talking. You can bet I left his apartment with the biggest smile on my face! 🙂

When I got home, my brother was excited to show off his new toy helicopter that Chelsey’s parents gave to him as part of a Christmas gift. We talked and ate my Mom’s famous pork pie for dinner before we got ready to go out for a drive to look at all of the Christmas lights around town.

When Chels and I started to get cold, we called everyone into the truck and took off on our annual Christmas light drive, which is my favorite part of Christmas Eve.

After watching several home videos that Chelsey took from her new video camera, we settled by the Christmas tree and fire and watched Christmas Vacation. Before we knew it, 11 o’clock rolled around and we headed up to bed before the big guy came down our chimney.

Day after Christmas

The day after Christmas started with a 4 mile run and a quick squat focused workout on the smith machine, before I hopped on the elliptical for 20 minutes, completed 4 sets of 13 back extensions, and a few shitty core exercises.

I showered and got dolled up before heading over to Mark’s for an all-day date! We lounged on his coach and talked for a bit before brainstorming possible adventure ideas. After looking up flights to Chicago (yes we were that serious), we settled on driving up to Portsmouth for a fun day around the mini city.

We walked around the city for a good 40 minutes, bundled up and close together while we window shopped the open restaurants to find a winner for lunch. We settled on a pizza joint, which I honestly forget the name of. I had no desire to take pictures of any meals over the week with Mark, mainly because I wanted to focus on him and not for blogging material. We both ordered 2 amazing salads that kept us full for a great chunk of the day and afternoon.

We wandered in and out of the tiny souvenir shops, a funky blown glass store, and our favorite, a children’s store full of fun little trinkets. One of our last stops was a store that we were attracted to because of the shirts hanging up in the windows, but to our surprise, we found candy bins out back and went to town filling up a bag of our favorite candies to share on our drive home. After eating our way into a sugar coma, we spent another hour and a half on his couch chatting and watching TV. All in all, I had one of the best days in a long time and am extremely excited to see him tomorrow!

Today

Phew, thank goodness I don’t have too much to recap yet. I woke up to a winter wonderland, as we got hit overnight with a big storm. So far we have roughly 8 inches of snow and expect a good amount more before the day ends.

It was so tough waking up again at 5:30, but I’m very happy to be back into my normal routine. Even though I got little sleep last night, I managed to squeeze in a decent 4 mile run before attacking the snowy unpaved roads.

Morning Workout

• 4 mile run
• 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 50 crunches
• 50 heel touchers
• 1 minute plank hold
• Stretching

The workout was pretty pathetic in terms of core work, but I’ll be getting my butt kicked this afternoon by my trainer, so it alllll works out!

My drive into work wasn’t too bad; I managed to stay on the road, and was one of the only brave souls to make the trek into work today. Talk about a total ghost town!

At least I only have a half day of work today, so I really can’t complain too much! Stay safe out there!

Decorating the Christmas Tree!

To all of my 121,300 4 followers, I hope you have kept extremely busy this weekend and haven’t missed my lack of blogging this weekend. I have to admit that it felt nice to step away from my computer yesterday. Some times you just need an electronic free day, especially during the holiday season.

Yesterday I started my day with a 4 mile run before running a few Christmas errands and picking out our family Christmas tree.

My family has never been into fake Christmas trees or “tagging” our trees. In the Lewis family, our tradition is to pile into the truck and drive around all afternoon to the various landscaping companies and browse their selection.

For the past 2 years, I’ve picked out the winning tree at our first stop and within a handful of minutes.

After getting home, I ate a quick bowl of Peanut Butter Banana Oatmeal before heading over to Lindsay’s for a girls night. We enjoyed wine, talked about our guy troubles, reminisced all our old college memories, and played with her little boy, Jackson.

Jackson had a blast strangling me by attacking my sweatshirt strings. I even found him halfway up the Christmas tree. That boy is the cutest devil ever!

Sunday

Today has flown by, even though I feel like I haven’t done too much. I woke up around 9:30 and went for a quick 3 mile run before heading out for a movie date with my momma to drool over Gerard Butler and James Tupper in Playing for Keeps.

Oh my goodness, so much deliciousness in that movie! My Mom and I were both and heaven and loved every minute of the movie.

If you’re a hopeless romantic and love Gerard Butler, his body and his accent, you’ll love this one! And you can drag your man to it because the beautiful Jessica Biel Timberlake is in it too!

After the movie, My Mom and I came back to decorate the Christmas tree and laugh over our favorite ornaments.

Since my Dad set the tree up and put the lights on, he left the decorating to us. The angel will go up when Ryan arrives home on Christmas Eve. That’s his job, and don’t worry, it always results in a ridiculous photo shoot.

This one is for my best friend, Goldie who I had for 14 1/2 years. He was gold, how original with his name right? I miss that little boy!

Now that the tree is up, it’s truly beginning to feel a lot like Christmas!

Now it’s time to drag my butt to the gym and complete my Total Body Workout before hunkering down on the couch for the evening with Christmas Gerard Butler movies. 😉

I Just Saw a Blur of Santas Run In Front of Me

I’m slowly thawing out after a fun 2 hours in 27 degree weather while my date and I watched the tail end of the Santa Shuffle before the Christmas Parade started.

It was so entertaining to watch hundreds and hundreds of Santa’s, young and old, running downtown. All it reminded me of was I’ll Be Home for Christmas when JTT registers for the Santa Shuffle to win the money so he can fly back home.

After giggling and reminiscing about how JTT was my first love crush, James and I continued walking a few additional blocks before I decided on our parade watching area. I chose a great little clustered island that had a perfect view!

The dinosaur really confused me. James and I were eager to see which Manchester firm/organization was sponsoring T-Rex, and it turned out to be Citizen’s Bank. Whatttt? I’m still as confused as ever. I don’t even know, all I do know is that a quick Google search resulted in this sponsorship.

I loved how decorative Foster’s Golf Camp’s bus was! The rear of the bus had a Christmas tree on top of it. So pretty! My brother actually went to Foster’s Golf Camp for several summers when he was younger. Golfing all day, all summer, Ryan was in love!

And then the hunky Manchester firefighters led the way for Santa. I seriously had so many comments I wanted to make about these gorgeous men but didn’t think it’d be a  good idea on my date. 😉

You can BET your lil’ peanut butter hearts that I pushed the kids to the ground ran to the side of the street to get a clear shot of Santa.

By the time the parade ended, I was frozen to the sidewalk. It was so cold outside that my mouth hurt when I talked and it felt like it was going to crack.

I quickly warmed up with a mug of hot chocolate and roughly 20 cups of marshmellows in my mug. Now I’m tending to me blog that I’ve neglected for the past day before I head over to my neighbors to watch the kiddos for the night.

I’ve Got a Double Whammy Post-Holiday Monday Blues

 

I don’t know about you guys, but it sure was difficult to get up this morning, plus it didn’t help that I stayed up until 10 pm watching Hitched for the Holidays, with heartthrob Joey Lawrence.

 

Typically I am in bed and reading from 9 until 10, or before if I’m exhausted, that way I don’t have the annoying TV syndrome to keep me wired and awake late into the night. Last night I made an exception since I was in the holiday mood, and I just have to gush over how funny and cute the movie was!

 

By the time I was in brushed and in bed, it was a little after 10, and I HAD to listen to Lisha explain a new show on MTV, so I was ready for shuteye around quarter of 11. Ick.

 

In all seriousness, have you guys heard of the show called, Catfish? We think the title is a ripoff of Plentyoffish. According to Lisha, it’s almost like, “True Life,” but the people on the show have been dating someone online for years + and they contact this man who I’m assuming is the host of the show to schedule a meeting.

Basically I NEED to watch this show, especially since I love online dating! Luckily I’ve never had horror stories like this before, and only some guys have looked a little different in person.

This morning I woke up 5 minutes before my alarm was scheduled to go off. Isn’t that the worst? I was so excited to look at the clock and get a warm greeting that I still had several extra hours to sleep, but not this morning.

 

I dragged myself out of bed and pouted in the bathroom before I went for a miserable run. My body is definitely not used to running this early, even if it had only been since Wednesday that I ran at 6.

 

Morning Workout

 

  • 3.7 mile run
  • 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 1 minute plank and 30 seconds each side
  • 50 crunches and 50 side-to-side crunches
  • 50 heel touchers
  • 100’s abs
  • 30 scissors
  • Stretching

 

It felt great to be pressed for time again and be able to get down to business with my workouts. I think lacking that time frame to get my workouts in on the weekends result in me ignoring my core or strength work. I lollygag on the weekends, what can I say, it’s a talent.

 

Before heading out the door to work, I enjoyed half of a juicy grapefruit and a chocolate cookies & cream protein shake. I had to mix it up this morning since I ran out of the protein I was using before, but damn, that shake was so satisfying!

 

I didn’t have time to snap a picture but into the shake went:

 

  • 8 oz almond milk
  • ½ scoop each of chocolate protein and cookies & cream protein
  • Handful of ice cubes
  • 3 frozen banana slices

 

 2 hours later I had a more substantial 2nd half of my breakfast and enjoyed a Chobani power bowl which included Mango Chobani and ½ TBSP each of: flax seed, raw oatmeal and chia seeds.

 

Delish!

 

I have about half a day left of work before I have my 2nd training session with Heather, my personal trainer!

 

And a special Happy Birthday to my mom and an extra special Happy Anniversary to parents!

Black Friday Shopping & Working Out!

Are all of you Black Friday shoppers finally waking up from your afternoon naps?

I didn’t do any crazy shopping today, BUT I did wait until all the crazies finished up and went to grab a few items when the crowds died down. Before I get into that jazz, let me give you a Thanksgiving Day recap!

Thanksgiving

After my workout in the morning, I snuggled Kip quickly before heading up to my uncle’s.

Usually we have a group of 30 family members at Thanksgiving, but we basically had only half of that. 😦 My cousin and her husband were with his family, my lame brother was with his fiancée (his FIRST Thanksgiving he’s ditched us for!), and my cousin and her husband and 4 kiddos were up at his family. AND my other cousin was stuck working.

After that, we were down 10, and 4 other family members came after the meal so it was a very very quiet dinner, but it was intimate and full of laughs.

If you see those little poppers, that’s where those crowns came from. We’re not all freaks. 😉

Look at that turkey! My uncle is one serious turkey cooker. 🙂

I made sure to load my plate up with 2 slices of canned cranberry sauce (the only way to do it!), stuffing, turkey, carrots, olives and bread and butter pickles.

I didn’t have the biggest appetite but I made sure to demolish the cranberry sauce and stuffing. After eating and cleaning up, the boys threw a football around while a few of us started a fire.

And stayed out there for a handful of hours just shooting the shit. Actually, I stayed out for as long as possible to stay away from my aunt’s addicting dessert. I typically eat half of her batch at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s not even an exaggeration. I always end up lying on the floor in pain.

We eventually did come inside and enjoyed desserts.

While Jay went for the mile long piece of turkey skin. Ick!

We spent the remainder of the evening talking and watching the Patriots kick total butt! When my uncles called the house phone from the couch upstairs asking for pie, my other uncle decided to have a little fun and with the help of my aunt, got dressed in a waitress’ outfit.

I’m so proud of my uncle! My family is pretty crazy and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

Around 10:30 I headed home, and since I drove by a Target, I decided to pop in to check the sales out. The parking lot was crazy, but I ended up leaving empty-handed.

This morning I woke up feeling light and great, unlike previous years where  I feel plump and gross. I set out for a painless and easy 5 mile HIIT run at the gym followed up with 15 minutes on the elliptical before hitting Target again and venturing off to the mall later in the afternoon to pick up some items for my Mom.

Now, I’m back home and my brother Ryan finally arrived, so it’s time to hang out with him for the rest of the evening before he leaves tomorrow!

“I’m Such a Bad Mother”

Have you ever received a message from someone close to you, whether it is a family member or a friend, and it just didn’t seem like something they would say?

I received a text message from my Mom this afternoon that immediately worried me.

Around noon she said, “Oh my gosh Allie I am such a bad mother.”

I was confused and started wracking my brain trying to think if today marks a special anniversary or day for my brother or I. I came up with nothing, so I texted her, “huh?”

No reply. I called her. Straight to voicemail. I started worrying my ass off and called my Dad as I was so worried something happened to her. That was NOT a message she would send without an explanation.

While dialing my Dad, she called me back and acted completely normal.

Want to know why she’s such a bad mother? She said she forgot to give me my Halloween gift. Boyyyy did I want to slap her silly! She had me so worried and when I told her what she put me through (in those 5 minutes of no response), we both got a laugh out of it. I completely forgot that my Mom & Dad always give gifts to my brother and me on every holiday under the sun; Easter, Valentine’s Day (out of pity since I’m ALWAYS single), and Halloween.

I was so busy running errands before the 15 Trick-or-Treaters bombarded our house and doing my P90X workout that I didn’t even realize I didn’t get my annual gift.

That woman kills me!

I was still riding high this afternoon from my awesome weigh-in results and wanted to keep the healthy habits going.

I completed the same lunch time workout that I did yesterday but flip-flopped the last 2 cardio sessions around. Gotta confuse the body in some way.

Afternoon Workout

  • 2 mile run
  • 10 minutes elliptical
  • 10 minutes spinning

Today has been one of those days where I’ve been more hungry than usual. Not really sure why since I had 2 bowls of cereal at 2 am last night. Ooops! Ya know, that’s me just living the dream.

My body was screaming for food so I happily dug into my 2-Ingredient crock pot chicken leftovers from last night.

Shredded chicken, mixed veggies, broccoli and brown rice. Perfect post-workout meal! I have the same meal prepared for tomorrow’s lunch but I am craving a pulled chicken sandwich. Plus, the brown rice is always a great add-in to my Chobani Strawberry Banana yogurt.

I’ve got a long to-do list in front of me so it’s time to get a crackin’!
