Sunny & 73 = Rainy & Cold

How often are weather forecasts accurate? According to Yahoo, on May 16, 2011, they’re 95-98% accurate. Well, times have changed my friends. That sunny in the 70s weather I was going to enjoy on my lunch time run by the river was actually a cold rain.

Wish I had been prepared like this little cutie!

Instead of running in the rain, I walked over to the gym and again completed a HIIT run. This run was a lot better than yesterdays’ HIIT run, but within the first minute my left ankle gave out and I almost ate shit. Luckily I was able to grab onto the front handles and steady myself while my ankle regained its strength. I’ve never experience this type of situation before so I was nervous and took it easy for the first half mile, but after that it was time to kick ass. The sprints came with ease, and I finished up the last mile and a half with the fastest HIIT I’ve done.

I finished up my workout with 10 minutes of sprints and hill climbs in the spinning room, 3 minutes of climbing stairs like I was invincible, and then 3 sets of 13 deadlifts with an upward row. I had planned on completing the deadlift sets this morning but food got in my way. Oops.

Afternoon Workout

  • 2 mile HIIT run
  • 10 minutes spinning
  • 3 minutes stairs, 11 floors
  • 3 sets of 13 deadlifts to upward row
  • Stretching

Since I had only eaten my oats, half a protein shake and another pumpkin muffin, I was about to eat my arm off from hunger. My lunch was an odd mix of healthy meets food for the sick.

The remainder of my protein shake, sugar snap peas and Chicken & Stars. Chicken & Stars was one of my favorite soups to eat when I was younger. Or tomato soup and grilled cheese sandwiches were the #1 go-to sick meal that my Mom prepared for my Dad, brother and I.

Do you guys have a go-to meal that you eat when you’re sick or a soup that you’ll never stop loving?

Disappointment set in when I realized all my little stars were all floating at the bottom of the container. Swamp soup.

Since we’re on the topic of disappointment, I’m rather embarrassed that the above meal was my “Lunchtime” picture for Instagram’s  Photo-a-Day. This is the first time I’ve ever started a Photo-a-Day challenge, but I’m extremely excited since I love taking random photos and am addicted to the application.

I know there are several different October challenges out there, but this is the one I’m doing.

In case you missed it, this is where I stood yesterday.

Come find me on there: alewis19  🙂

Hope everyone’s having a great Tuesday so far. Happy almost hump day! 🙂

Stuffed Up Monday

I’m a self-professed cat lover and am obsessed with my Jakey poo, but whenever he wants to sleep with me, which is every night, I have trouble sleeping. You see, Jakey doesn’t choose a side of the bed, he chooses the middle. I hate waking up him so instead of pushing him over to the right side, I literally go spread eagle with my legs. Ladylike.

Reason #124 why I’m single. When I have a stuffy nose I stick a rolled up piece of tissue up the clogged nostril so that I can sleep without constantly sniffing and don’t have to worry about a runny nose.

So there I was, with my tissue stuffed up my nose and my legs wide open, struggling for sleep. I’m positive I woke up at least 4 times last night and finally gave up and kicked Jake out. I give him treats so he still loves me. Unconditional love.

I actually got a great workout in this morning and also on my lunch break. I was signed up for the 4:30 spin class but I wasn’t sure how I’d do leaning over handle bars with a runny nose.

Morning Workout

· 3.3 mile run
· 15 stair push-ups
· 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
· 50 crunches & 50 side-to-side crunches
· 90 second plank hold
· 2 sets of 13 skiing dumbbell squats
· 2 sets of 13 standing side-to-side dumbbell crunches
· 3 sets of 13 chest flies, lying down
· Stretching

While at work I also managed to throw in several air squats in the corner of my office, and completed 2 sets of 20. I absolutely dred squats but it’s so easy to get out of my chair, bust out several squats and sit back down and get right back to work.

Breakfast this morning was a kicked up version of my Chobani strawberry banana yogurt. Last night I microwaved a bag of instant brown rice and mixed about 1/3 cup of it into my yogurt. It was heavenly and extra filling!

I’ll definitely be making this again, but I’m going to try a little less rice so I can taste more of the yogurt. I highly recommend this though!

Afternoon Workout

· 2 mile HIIT run
· 2 sets of 25 medicine ball sit-ups
· 13 medicine ball lumberjack squats, each side
· 13 medicine ball lumberjack chops, each side
· 10 minutes elliptical, alternating between forwards and backwards pedaling

The ladies gym felt like a sauna so my run wasn’t too fun, but the interval running felt great and I actually am feeling lighter and more energetic than I have the past few days!

Lunch was a hodgepodge of a meal. It consisted of a pumpkin muffin, a sliced up Fuji apple, carrots and a protein bar.

The protein bar I ate roughly half an hour after everything else since I was still hungry and didn’t plan accordingly. Well, I take that back. I did, but I just wasn’t craving my Chicken & Stars soup and knew it wouldn’t fill me up so I’m saving it for tomorrow. Yes, I’m 5 again.

My nose is running again. Excuse my while I go stick a tissue up it.

Orange Marmalade Obsession

What’s up with me continually getting the “case of the Mondays” on Tuesdays? From here on out I’m going to plan on having fantastic Mondays and craptastic Tuesdays.

Monica, Rachel & Phoebe must be having a craptastic Tuesday too 😉

If today wasn’t the perfect day to start fresh and finally put in the hard effort to see results and get toned, then I simply don’t know what to tell you. This whole “don’t have a midnight snack” thingamabob is working, and for the first time in months I slept through the entire night! The only bad thing is that the 20 spoonfuls of peanut butter I inhaled last night latched on to my ass this morning. I felt sluggish all day, even after getting in my morning workout. WOOF!

Morning Workout

  • 3.5 mile run
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 2 sets of 20 rock climbers… yeahhhhh this chunk-a-monk has been referring to the wrong exercise throughout my entire blog 😦
  • 2 sets of 20 skiing dumbbell squats
  • 2 sets of 13 standing side dumbbell crunches, each side
  • Stretching

Every morning I drive past Farm & Flower, the biggest farmer’s market that is open year round in Manchester, and after sitting at the light for what seemed like hours, I had the biggest urge to put my car in park and run and grab an orange and a banana.

So close yet sooooooo far away! 😦

Since I was having an off day, I decided to skip my lunch and tap into my sick time and left at 3 instead of 5 so that I could tackle my errands that I slacked on NEEDED to get done.

I picked up my brother a Nike Dri-Fit shirt for the last part of his birthday, grabbed a few different types of boxes/envelopes to mail his gift in, and then nervously went to Supercuts for a trim. I’ve heard horror stories about Supercuts and I was ready to rock the Miley Cyrus mohawk if they left bald spots. I wanted a cheap trim to hold me off until I visit my normal hairdresser. You see, I really didn’t want to pay $40 for a trim when I could get one for $15.99. Makes sense to me! I could buy a cute new workout top for the difference I saved!

After my haircut, I made a pit stop at my house, fueled up on a handful of grapes, raspberries and polished off the last few bites of tuna before heading to Gold’s for the R.I.P.P.E.D class. I had about 20 minutes to kill so I ran 1.5 miles with HIIT training, and boy did it feel amazing! I typically run at 5.8-6 miles, depending on how my body feels, but I was running at 6.4 and sprinting at 6.8 and I could have gone faster and longer had I had more time.

The R.I.P.P.E.D class left me feeling energized and pumped. I took a boot camp class with Kris, the instructor about a month ago and I instantly connected with her energy level and teaching style. She’s a lovable yet fierce Latina who always has a smile on her face.

Since Sunday’s brunch with Mike, I’ve had one meal on my mind, and since the only missing ingredient was picked up today, I knew EXACTLY what was going down when I got home.

Scrambled eggs and ORANGE MARMALADE TOAST. Can you tell what part I was most excited for? I might have to rename my blog, “Running on Orange Marmalade.”

Breakfast for Dinner

  • 2 eggs & 1 egg white scrambled with pepper and a little water
  • 2 pieces of whole wheat Arnold’s toast with orange marmalade (OMG NOM NOM NOM)
  • Ketchup to dip my eggies in
  • Side of pure happiness

I forgot how amazing breakfast meals are, and I honestly wish I could incorporate more healthy and lasting meals for my breakfast, but it’s difficult when you’re in the office from 8-5 and don’t have a stove at work! My idea is to make eggs the morning of, and bring the bread and marmalade in a to-go container.

Time to go wrap Ryan’s gift and get it ready for shipment tomorrow before posting several of my current pictures that will be used as my “before” pictures for when I get the results that will allow me to have my very own success story! 🙂
