A Weekend Full of My Favorite People

I’ve had such a great weekend filled with friends and family that I love the most. So far I’m doing perfect with my 2013 goals.

Yesterday I started my morning with my official weigh in for Erica’s Diet Bet before completing a run/walk interval workout. My legs were very sore from my leg workout from Thursday, so I started off with a 1.25 mile warm-up walk before tackling a 4 mile run.

By the time I was finished and showered, it was noon and I was ready for breakfast. I went for oatmeal in an almost empty peanut butter jar!

I mixed 1/2 cup of oats with 1 cup of almond milk, cinnamon, Truvia, 2 tbsp of PB2 and topped it with half of a banana (I ate the other half before working out) and several mini scoops of strawberry jam.

The oatmeal was so good and it was actually my first time having oatmeal in an almost empty jar of pb. I’ve seen this pop up on a lot of blogs, and I’m excited to try it in all of the remaining jars I have.

Since my Mom is recovering from surgery, I spent the rest of my day at home making sure she had everything she needed. I cleaned the house, went grocery shopping, completed a load of laundry, and just hung out with her for a bit before my Dad arrived and I was able to sneak off to the gym for a strength workout.

I had planned on doing the Pure Hell workout, but while drying my hands in the bathroom before working out, my workout unfortunately got screwed over by the dryer and sink. Womp womp!

For the most part I was able to remember everything since the workout was still burned in my brain.

I had originally planned on only doing a cardio workout, but I’m so glad that I changed my mind and went for the weights. Before my strength workout I did warm up with another mile walk and finished up with 10 minutes on the elliptical, followed by 10 minutes in the sauna.

I quickly headed home to shower and get dolled up for a night out. I ended up allowing The Prospect to treat me to a very fancy dinner at Cotton for several hours before we met up with Mike for several drinks at Strange Brew. I ended up ordering the Spinach Salad with Grilled Salmon and absolutely loved it! This is easily one of my favorite meals at any restaurant. I hadn’t seen Mike in what seemed like forever and I was happy that both Mike and The Prospect wanted to meet each other.

I’m pretty sure it was the first time that Mike has approved of a guy I’ve brought around, and coming from the most honest and over-protected best friend I have, this is big.

Around 1, The Prospect and I headed out and fell asleep watching Rachel vs. Guy: Celebrity Cook-Off. Holy crap this show was so good. He was out cold but I only snoozed during commercials. I’m pretty sure the new season kicks off tonight, so I might have to add it to my line-up! By the time I got home and into bed it was 3 am, SO late for me, and slept like a rock until 10 am.

Sunday

After popping 2 clementines into my mouth, I tackled a 4 mile run, which was a little difficult after a late night of great food, beer and a skinny girl marg. Definitely worth it!

I enjoyed a Strawberry Banana protein shake before taking care of several things. Now I’m just finishing this post and watching a Cougar Town marathon until my cousin Nikki arrives. We have plans to go shopping at the Merrimack Outlets and Target, which I hope I can refrain from spending money!

Knowing that I’d get hungry while shopping, I packed a PB2 & J sandwich for the trip.

2 slices of Ezekiel bread, 2 tbsp of PB2 and a little strawberry jam, and that’s all you need for the perfect comfort food sandwich! I hope I get hungry soon so I can dig in.

Best Friend Date & Thanksgiving Dinner #2

What a tiring past 24 hours!

Yesterday we left off with me relaxing for several minutes before I had to head to my neighbors to babysit my 3 favorite kiddos while their parents went out to celebrate their Dad’s birthday.

Bella, Markie and JJ were all doing their own thing, so I spent time playing and hanging out with each of them. Markie and I started out with watching some of his favorite shows, including Spongebob (okay I actually LOVE when he watches this, it’s SO good!), then I helped JJ brainstorm the book she’s working on to give to her former teacher.

Bella and I went into the basement to show each other workout exercises. Bella and I get along extremely well. She’s a former gymnast and a current track & field star, so it’s always fun to watch her show me her insanely disgusting flexibility moves. She even told me last night that she used to be able to take her glasses off with her feet. Ew!

One of my favorite parts of being with the kids last night was watching them choose their advent calendars and then opening day #1. We actually had a debate over which number you open first. I always opened #1 first, and #24 on Christmas Eve, but they did the opposite. They always opened #24 first since they were “counting down.” That’s Bella on the right in the above picture trying to “Google” which way was correct. We gave up and called it a truce when Markie decided to open #24 and eat a chocolate. Problem solved. 😉

With an advent calendar, do you typically open box #1 or #24 first?

I didn’t end up getting home last night or this morning until 2 am. Mr. & Mrs. Messina sure did have a great time celebrating Mark’s birthday, but it was torture on me. By the time I got home and was ready for bed, it was 3 am!

I only slept until 9:15 this morning, which means today has been a painful and tiring day!

I enjoyed a bowl of Chobani yogurt with Chia seeds while watching last week’s Parks & Rec episode before I went for a 3.5 mile run.

After my run, I met my best friend Lisha halfway, about 45 minutes for each of us, for a lunch date at Panera. I hadn’t been feeling well all morning so I only ordered the chicken noodle soup bowl.

$5.64 for that bowl of soup was a little outrageous, but I knew that my body needed the calories and protein so I forced myself to eat it. I pocketed that lil’ mini apple and plan to enjoy it tomorrow.

After talking about our workouts, Christmas and men, we called it a day, took our annual picture and said our goodbyes. I knew that I had my “Total Body Workout” to do this evening, and I was completely dreading it. With being tired and the weather, it was the last thing I wanted to do, but I relaxed for half an hour when I got home and then trekked on over to the gym.

I’m SO glad that I went, because it was an awesome workout that left me schweaty and hungry. By the time I got home, my 2nd Thanksgiving dinner with my parents was ready.

I’ll be completely honest with you guys when I say that I enjoyed 2 servings of stuffing and a LOT of crunchy skin. I never treat myself with the skin but it was there and I wanted it, so I ate some. All I can say is that I’m one stuffed turkey! 😉

Now it’s time to go find someone to rub my full belly and watch a Christmas movie and relax for the night. I hope you guys had a great weekend!

Sometimes You Just Need to Have Fro-Yo for Dinner

Last night after work I met up with my girl Lindsay for a fro-yo date and to catch up. We both found it hard to believe that it had been a month since we last saw each other. With traveling for work and being sick, it was difficult to get together, BUT we vowed to not let that much time lapse. Plus, we have plans to drool over John Cusack in Serendipity, watch Christmas movies and go shopping, so I’ll have plenty of best friend time in my future. 🙂

We met up at 5:30 at Yo-Flava, a semi-new frozen yogurt bar in Manchester that we’ve been to once before. We were so excited to see the fall and winter flavors mixed among the regular flavors.

In my bowl I went for apple pie, cheesecake and a pomegranate mix. Typically I would load my fro-yo with unhealthy toppings, including anything covered in chocolate and cookie and candy pieces. Last night, I topped my fro-yo with strawberries and blackberries to play with the cheesecake, finely diced walnuts, and a small scoop of mini chocolate morsels.

I tried my best to match the toppings with the flavors since last time it was a total disaster, and I’m happy to report that I succeeded!

All that cheesecake fro-yo had me craving the REAL cheesecake in my fridge, so when I got home I HAD to have a mini slice.

What? You only live once. 😉 Plus, this morning Lindsay informed me that cheesecake is calorie free so whatevs! Treat yo’ self and live a little.

Several days ago my bestie Lisha was telling me about a new show on MTV called Catfish, and since I had the house to myself and nothing to do, I sprawled out onto the couch and put it on. Holy moly is that show addicting!

One of us was bored and it wasn’t me. I had a load of laundry that had to be switched to the dryer halfway through my first episode but I couldn’t tear myself away from the show. Needless to say, after completing 2 episodes, I finally turned the show off and switched my laundry.

My priorities were very evident last night and I have no shame in the mindless television I watched or the treats I enjoyed.

My legs are almost back to normal, which is great, aside from the fact that the workout that murdered my midget legs is scheduled for today. I could complain about my legs not having a day to feel normal again, but I enjoy the pain because I know my body is being positively challenged. Bring it on!

Ever since starting personal training last week, I’ve scaled down my runs a little bit by about a mile or less a day. Nothing too drastic but I like the feeling I get when I wake up and don’t have to worry about trying to get in a 4 mile run. I know that even on a hard morning, I can still get in a quality 3- 3.5 miler in and feel great about myself, especially when I know I have a strength workout to look forward to later in the day that will be even more beneficial to my goals.

So this morning I enjoyed a more relaxed workout atmosphere and with the help of my favorite Good Charlotte album, The Young & the Hopeless, I made it through 3.3 miles. Seriously, that’s one of my favorite albums ever created and my personal fav from the dudes.

Morning Workout

• 3.3 mile run
• 4 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 50 heel touchers
• 1 minute plank hold
• 50 scissors
• 50 crunches
• 2 sets of 20 plank tucks
• 2 sets of 13 standing dumbbell side crunches

Breakfast

As weird as it’s been not having my overnight oats for breakfast, I’ve been enjoying my breakfast switcheroo, which in order to consume more calories a day, I’ve broken breakfast into 2 mini meals.

Since I workout upon waking, you’ll have noticed that I’ve been eating half a grapefruit and a protein shake before leaving for work around 7:25ish. This not only helps with my muscle recovery from my morning workout, but it also gets my metabolism going again.

Between 9:30 and 10:15 I’ll usually enjoy the 2nd half of my breakfast, which has been a Chobani power bowl, which includes ½ tbsp. of: chia seeds, flax seeds, raw oats and sometimes PB2, depending on the yogurt flavor.

Not only do I have more energy with my new breakfast routine, but I won’t lie when I say that I enjoy having 2 mini breakfasts each morning. Who doesn’t love to eat?

Day 30 P90X Results

Well guys, yesterday was Day 30 on the P90X challenge, and I have to say, I am LOVING my results. My arms and shoulders are more defined, my stomach is tighter and more toned, and my thighs are also slimming up!

I actually don’t think I’ve lost any weight besides the random pound or 2, but I’m happy to be toning up all over. While I am confident in my skin and love the body I have now, I still have a long ways to go to get to where I want my body to be physically.

Last night I went to Allie & Kris’ apartment to relax with them for a bit. To be honest, I wasn’t feeling good at all and my exhaustion begged me to stay home, but because we keep rescheduling, I felt bad if we had to push back hanging out again!

When I got there they were just cleaning up from the gym and getting dinner ready. Since I completed Back & Biceps before heading over, I fed my muscles with a Peanut Butter Strawberry Banana protein shake for my dinner.

We chatted about everything and nothing before cozying up on the couch to watch last weeks’ episode of Grey’s Anatomy. Allie and I used to watch Grey’s every Thursday together ever since the very first season, so it was a lot of fun to continue our tradition that we’ve had for years and years.

Allie’s my person. We’ve been quoting that line to each other every since Meredith and Christina said it to one another. I love that girl to death. 🙂

Tuesday

This morning I woke up feeling like death. Extreme sore throat and an achy body… with tight calves. Ouchies!

I wasn’t feeling a workout, but I knew I’d feel better after. Or so I thought.

I knew 4 miles was going to be impossible with how tight my calves were. I meant to foam roll them last night but I just remembered now that I was supposed to do that. Opps!

I took it easy with my workout and told myself that I can run as slow as I need to as long as I’m moving.

Morning Workout

• 3.6 mile run
• 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 1 minute plank hold
• 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
• 100’s Abs
• Stretching & foam rolling… finally!

I haven’t had too big of an appetite yet today, but I did enjoy roughly 2/3 of my Raspberry Mango Overnight Oats just to get something into my stomach.

Trader Joe’s, Sex Toys and Long-Lost Friends

Saturday

Saturday was a busy little day. It felt like I didn’t have a minute of free time where I could just sit down and relax.

After my workout, I tagged along with my momma while she got her haircut before we swung over for a shopping spree at Trader Joe’s. I believe it’s the first TJ’s in New Hampshire, and it recently opened, so we were excited to check it out.

I loved the set-up of the produce, although the center aisles were very compact and I had to wait in line to select my Fuji apples. It didn’t help that we went on a Saturday afternoon, as we felt like the entire city of Nashua was shopping with us.

I even came across Brussels Sprouts on a stick! I couldn’t not take a picture with this little big guy. It was so cute and something I had never seen before. I guess I always thought that Brussels Sprouts just came in a bag. 😉

After seeing Roasted Seaweed on many blogger’s pages, I was excited when I came across snack size bags for $.99! I grabbed one and ripped into once we were driving home to test them out.

My first bite resulted in tiny seaweed flakes on my shirt, and the post-bite left a slimy feeling in my mouth. I powered through about half of the pouch before I couldn’t do it anymore. The seaweed was a little too salty and “weird” for me. Overall I’m happy that I gave them a shot, but I would much rather snack on baked sweet potatoes with PB2.

After my sweet potato and peanut butter fix, I ventured over to the gym for a quick cardio workout that included a 1 mile run, 15 minutes on the vertical elliptical and weights.

When I got into my car after my workout, I looked out the side mirror and had a beautiful and breathless view. I couldn’t have parked any more perfect. I felt like I was in a photoshopped moment.

After showering, I enjoyed a powerbowl for dinner, which included Chobani Vanilla yogurt, chia seeds, fresh strawberries, flax-seed, finely diced walnuts and raw oatmeal.

My powerbowl hit the spot and left me feeling nice and full before I headed up North to my friend Chris’ Sex Toy party put on my Athena’s. I’ve been to one of these parties years ago, and just like the first time, I went more so for the company. Chris and I used to work together last year, and I hadn’t seen her since the end of January when I left that job, so I was really excited to spend time with her and catch up.

I ended up being the last one to leave, and stayed a good hour and a half after her friends left. We talked about our ex’s and got into the juicy details of how we both lost who we thought were the “loves of our lives,” we discussed work and also just life and our past coworkers. It was so good to see Chris and we’re both making sure we get together more often!

I arrived home around 9:30 and at that point, I was DEAD tired. I felt so guilty because I had about 4 friends who were texting me but I was so exhausted that by 10:20 I passed out, leaving 4 conversations hanging.

Girls Causing Trouble

Whoever created the weekend had a good idea, but they forgot to add another day to it. As much as I would love having a 3 day weekend, I’d prefer the regular weekend with Wednesday off for a “refresher” day. Plus, think of all the trouble I could get myself into on Tuesday nights!

After yesterday, I could easily use Monday as another day off. Honestly though, I’d much rather soldier through a day tired and save my sick and paid time off for trips and long weekends away.

Saturday

On Saturday I got up at the ass crack of dawn to keep my running streak alive. Saturday was spent in New York City with my college roommates, and since Lindsay was arriving at my house at 6:15, that meant I had to be showered and dressed by that time. That meant getting up at 5 am if I wanted to get a quick run in.

 

Such a rude awakening, but I couldn’t bear to break my streak. I was able to only fit in a mile run, but given the circumstances, it was enough to keep the streak hot.

Here’s a little break down so you realize why I hate breaking it.

  • I’ve run every day since 3/17/12, covering 972.75 miles in the past 218 days
  • In the past 566 days, I’ve  run 2,091.16 miles and have taken 23 days off from running.  13 of those days were due to a sprained groin, which I ran with for 7+ months. Stupid I know. 4 of those 23 days I willingly took off. 3 were due to road trips and driving in a car for 15 straight hours, and the other 3 are unaccountable for.

I don’t take days off. I can’t do it.

So when it came to choosing between an extra 10 minutes of sleep or keeping my streak going, the answer was easy.

Girls Day in New York City

After meeting up with Nicole in South Station, we grabbed seats on the Fung Wah bus and hit the road for the city. We all took turns snoozing and catching up, and were thrilled when we made it.

The subways are few and far between Downtown and near Canal Street so we had a little trouble finding one, but apparently I had on my New York City tour guide pants on and was able to guide us to the Wall Street entrance. After a mishap we finally made it to Grand Central where Michelle and Kate had been waiting for us.

Food was on my mind, and tequila on the girls, so we snuck into Tequilaville for the beginning of girls day. While the girls all ordered food that would have kept me in bathroom all day, I was pumped when I saw a shrimp and avocado salad on the menu. I’ve been craving avocado for quite a bit now.

With full bellies and buzzed heads, we took to Times Square, where Michelle had fun molesting all the Disney characters (reason #351 why she doesn’t have a boyfriend). We also had fun goofing off and taking pictures together. We’re a bunch of girls who love photos.

My only requirement of the day was to stop at M&M World, only my favorite store in the world!

After a fun day of shopping, catching up, and walking around just enjoying each others’ company, we said goodbye to Kate and Michelle at Grand Central. Linds, Nicole and I ventured off to find a Starbucks to grab some food but ended up getting hit on by a few young local boys. Nicole wasn’t pleased but I thought it was funny and flattering.

It was a LONG bus ride home, especially since my phone died at 5. 😦 Luckily I was able to charge it for 5 minutes in a Dunkin Donuts and another 3 at the rest area we stopped at, which gave my phone a little time to be able to talk with my crush, but eventually it died again.

When I got home, I was greeted by my long-awaited package from my crush, who was a complete sweetheart and stayed up until I opened it.

Girls Weekend: Shopping Spree & Boston Adventures

What a fun weekend! I spent it with two of my favorite girlfriends, where we shopped and explored Boston.

Saturday

On Saturday I hit the gym where I completed a 4 mile run, 25 minutes on the unknown cardio machine, 15 on the elliptical, and 10 minutes of spinning. My legs were so tight that the spinning was just me pedaling at a sprint pace to loosen the tight muscles.

After my workout, I cleaned up, ended my 6 years and 10 month relationship with Planet Fitness, my old gym, and then went over to Lindsay’s for a girls afternoon. After playing with Jackson, her little kitten for a bit and making him do flips in the air, Linds showed me the Halloween outfits she bought for him.

Jackson does NOT enjoy being a monkey. We thought he made an adorable monkey. 🙂 After kitty time, we attacked Marshall’s, and boy did we go a little crazy!

We didn’t do THAT bad of damage, well, Linds left with $80 of product and I left with $112, but I had 2 big-ticket items, including new boots and a new purse!

Absolutely loving the fall colors! I also snagged a new sports bra and cute top for $10 each off the clearance rack, oh and a bag of chocolate covered espresso beans which were my dinner last night…. yum!

Sunday

Today, my cousin Nikki and her neighbor ventured down to Boston for a day full of shopping and eating.

Before Boston, I woke up early and hit the gym for a good workout, consisting of a 5 mile run and 40 minutes on the unknown cardio machine, followed by a few weights.

In Boston, I managed to drop my favorite sunglasses, step on them, and lose an eye.

Sad pout but beautiful purse! Later in the day I managed to fix my sunglasses so I can be back to my stylish ways. We wandered around Faneuil Hall for a bit, grabbed lunch at Cheers, which for me consisted of a veggie burger and fries, which were both a major disappointment.

I found this amazing hat that I’m kicking myself for not buying.

After a full day of bouncing in and out of shops and the girls leaving with bags full of Celtics girl, we headed back to our car after the rain began to fall.

The weekend was amazing and I’m so glad I got to spend it with my loves.

I hope you all had a great October weekend as well! I know I’m very excited to eat healthy again this week. All that chocolate and greasy food is weighing me down!

Gypsy Weekend with the College Girls

Like I said earlier, this weekend has been cray cray. My former college roomies came up to NH this weekend for our Gypsy Weekend, and it was quite the event! It was so good seeing those girls. Lindsay lives the next town over from me so we’re always together, but I hadn’t seen Michelle since October, and Nicole since last June!

Michelle came Friday night, but because I was in RI seeing Chris, Linds and Michelle went out, and I headed to Lindsay’s Saturday after my 4.2 mile run.

We ended up going to the Merrimack Outlets, which just opened up several months ago, to buy some cute new clothes. We all made out with some very cute purchase, which I’m excited about! I was good with my money and only bought one shirt from J.Crew. I SO could have spent hundreds there, but since I’m so good with my money, I simply treated myself to one top, which I’m IN LOVE with.

After that, we hit up the grocery store where we bought ingredients to bake Nicole birthday cupcakes. Her birthday is Tuesday! Upon getting back to Lindsay’s condo, we started baking up a storm and thought it’d be fun to experiment with food coloring to make pretty frosting.

After baking, we all showered and got dolled up before heading downtown for a couple of beers at my favorite bar, Murphy’s. There, we met a couple of guys, talked, had a blast, and we ran into the boy I had my first kiss with. What a small world!

 

My Girls

Today, Nicole came up, as she was busy Saturday and couldn’t make it, so once she arrived, we went out for a yummy lunch at The Puritan (the girls wanted their famous mudslides), and we caught up for a long time before heading back to Lindsay’s. We then devoured the cupcakes (after making Nicole blow out her candles first), and continued to catch up before the girls had to start their drives home to Boston and CT.

17 Outfits and No Luck

Today after my run, I went out for a girls’ day with my Mom and went shopping. Our first stop was TJ Maxx, and we were in the mood to find some cute clothes and good deals. After browsing around for a bit, we took armfuls into the dressing room and had a little fashion show.

After trying on 11 items, I struck out. Not a single piece worked. I was so bummed! I have a wedding next weekend and I was really hoping to come across a pretty dress so that I didn’t have to wear my “go-to” dress.

After browsing the home goods section and coming up empty-handed we got in the suv and headed over to Target, our favorite store! Once again, we scoured through the clothing department and made our way to the dressing room. 6 pieces later and once again no luck. That made 17 articles of clothing that I didn’t like.

In between trips, I needed my energy, so I guzzled down this delicious cup of strawberry (protein) milk.

To top it off, the two buttons on my favorite pair of jeans popped off. And no, I didn’t get fat! Such bad luck today!

After coming home and grabbing a bite to eat, I headed next door to play around with G-dog in the sun before heading to Gold’s

I was feeling pretty full but still managed to get a GREAT workout in! I bounced from cardio machine to cardio machine and threw in a little core work in between all of that. I’m getting so antsy to take a class that I might just have to find one to take tomorrow. I won’t make it until Tuesday night’s boot camp. I need someone to kick my ass before then!

Afternoon Workout

  • 2 sets of 25 medicine ball sit-ups

  • 5 minutes rowing, level 6
  • 10 minute cool down walk, incline 2.0

The workout felt great, but my stomach didn’t. I headed home, hoping to lay low, but upon entering the house, I was put on “carry a 52″ TV through the house and down the stairs” duty.

Dorks Unite at the Library

No tennis tonight! As much as I wanted to catch up and see Jenny, I was beyond ecstatic when she said she was exhausted, and we both happily agreed to reschedule tennis, as I’ve been walking around all evening like an old granny.

Since I couldn’t get into Seating Arrangements, the book I was attempting to read, I swung over to my favorite place in my town, the library. No joke either, I’m such a dork and I absolutely embrace it.

New Hampshire really does have some amazing views, even from a small town library! It’s so easy to take things for granted that I love when I’m reminded of the beauty in things that some people just pass by.

I came out big at the library. I’ve been on a FRIENDS kick lately, and since On Demand only had one episode, which I HAD to watch last night, I checked out the library’s DVD section and was pumped when I found Season 5. You betchya I snapped that sucker off the shelf! I then became intrigued by the cover and title off the thriller kiosk in the middle of the library. Can’t wait to read The Snowman, by Jo Nesbo. In fear of not being able to get into that book, I did what I typically do, and went in search for a 2nd book. Is it really nerdy that I have a game plan when I go to the library? Nahhh, I didn’t think so either. Girl is on a mission! I was so pumped when I came across The Newlyweds by Nell Freudenberger, a book that was recommended for “romance lovers” in my magazine.

Win, Win & Win

 

I can’t decide which book to read first. I might have to “eenie meenie miney mo” this debate.
