Does Heartbreak Ever Go Away?

I had a great afternoon and evening and then it got awful with the click of a laptop key. I wasn’t even going to do a post, I’m that distraught, but it has to be done. So while this post might read all cheery, at least the beginning, I’m really sitting here with a straight face, a broken heart and nothing in me.

Before I get all wah wah, I should start by mentioning that I had an orgy in my mouth today after my workout. That’s right, remember those pancakes I made last night? Yup, I demolished two of those suckas after my lunchtime workout.

So amazing. SO amazing! After a 2 mile run, 15 minutes on the mystery cardio machine and medicine ball lumberjack chops and squats, these were earned!

After work I went with my best friend Allie and Kris to watch Allie’s 7-year-old cousin Jaime, play in her soccer game. It was chilly out but so much fun spending time with her extended family!

Then after getting home, I was bored and putting off blogging so I went on Facebook and goofed off. I ended up on my ex’s page and lost it. A new chick, mind you she’s not cute at all, posted shirtless pictures of him, followed up with a picture saying they loved each other, back from August. Give the fact that we broke up in July. Ugh. That one hurt. Badly. Deeply. Rob was what I thought my one true love, the man I planned to get a house with this winter and eventually marry. Maybe I’m just hurting because he moved on before I did. All I know right now is devastation. On the positive side of this, I no longer have an appetite which means no midnight snacking for me!

Luckily I have the season premiere of Grey’s Anatomy in 20 minutes. Hopefully Patrick Dempsey can cheer me up a little.

Day 1: BBQ at the Big Wig’s

This weekend was crazy, so I’ll break the posts down by each day since I’d produce a novel if I combined the entire weekend into one blog post.

Saturday

Friday night I decided to hit the sheets early to get rest and feel better for my weekend visiting my brother, Ryan, and his girlfriend, Chelsey in Harrisburg, PA.

Saturday I woke up at 5 am, ran a quick 2.1 miles, busted out a few push-ups and planks, hit the shower, packed my car up and hit the road by 6:15. 8 hours driving through the city and country was NOT fun. I arrived around 1:30, had a few slices of turkey while catching up with Ry and Chels, and went for a quick 1.6 mile run at the river a block from their apartment.

Buggy Route in downtown Harrisburg, PA

After my run, we all showered and piled into Ry’s car and headed to a work BBQ he was invited to. Let me break it down for you. Ry works at Hershey, and Tom, the V.P of Sales at Hershey, invited him to his “Crab Fest,” that was attended by Tom’s close co-workers and their families. Tom is 4 levels above Ry, or as he told me, “He’s my boss’ boss’ boss.” Uhhh, basically Tom is BIG, and his home was even bigger.

Beautiful Pool.. and Ry Stuffing Face

Chels and I had to be on our best behavior and schmooze with the Hershey guys, and Chels actually had to bite her tongue when the guy who my brother will be interviewing with for a promotion, made inappropriate comments during the corn hole. The things you do for the one you love.

A Lil’ Corn Hole

The “Crab Fest” was more fun than I was expecting. Ry said we really only had to stay for 2 hours and then we could bounce but we all had such a great afternoon and evening talking, eating, and playing corn hole that we stayed for over 4 hours.

Got Crabs?

I failed at cracking the crabs and getting sufficient meat, so I opted for Adam’s (see man in above picture behind Ryan) pulled pork, an amazing strawberry salad, and watermelon and grapes. Perfect dinner!

Perfect Summer Dinner

When we arrived home, we were all pretty wiped so we retreated to the living room and watched an extremely creepy episode of CSI and cuddling with their new cat, Henry… aka Henry Houdini Simba Rink Lewis.

Nice to Meet You Guys! I’m a Punk 🙂

Wild Weekend

This weekend was a wild one, as my cousin and I raged with her Bubchi up at her beach house.

First, let’s skip to Friday night. My boss let the marketing girls leave early on Friday, which thrilled me since Ryan and Chelsey were waiting at home. Once home, the three of us hung outside talking about life, work and everything in between while Ryan hit golf balls around the yard and came an inch within hitting me in the face. Thanks bro, love you too!

Ryan, who works for Hershey chocolate, brought home dark chocolate covered acai berries and goji raspberries, to give us a taste of a new brand Hershey just acquired. I’ve always wanted to try both goji and acai berries, so I was hyperventilating when I saw the two bags sitting on the counter.

These bags didn’t last too long

I wasn’t even hungry but dug right in. Definitely spoiled dinner, but it was well worth it. That night, we hung out with my parents, watched a little TV, per my request we watched AC360 so I could fulfill my addiction to the Empire State Building shooting and Jeffrey Johnson. What an awful, awful tragedy, for the victims and for Jeffrey for having to feel the way he did for so long. Most people only feel bad for the victims, but how about a little compassion for Johnson. Yes, I know he went crazy and murdered a man, but can you imagine the thoughts and feelings he had to suffer through? I’m a big CSI fanatic, so cases like this draw me in. I spent a majority of the weekend on my phone just to try to find out the latest information.

Saturday morning I couldn’t sleep, and I was wide awake by 6:30 am… yes on a Saturday, ughhh! I decided to lace up my running shoes and went for a great 4.15 mile run before showering and getting ready to head up to my cousins. Around 10, my cousin, Nikki, my Aunt Mare, and myself drove to a protein shake bar in their city that is recently new. Since I didn’t realize how nutritious the smoothies were, I had a shake on my way to their house, but stole a few sips of their shakes and fell in love! I’m actually heading there tomorrow night to meet with one of the owners to talk about their business plan and discuss how I can get into the franchise and options I have, as they are looking to expand closer to my area. I’m so excited!

After spending about an hour longer than we expected at the shake bar, we dropped Aunt Mare off and headed up to York Beach, Maine, where we were heading to take care of Nikki’s Bubchi, who is old and needs as much help as she can get. Usually Nikki’s Aunt’s, Uncles and parents are at the beach on the weekend, but no one was able to head up. Nikki’s family dog, Kayla, a 13 year old Golden, had a stroke early this week and is house bound, so her parents had to stay home. Our family sticks together through thick and thin, so when Nikki asked me if I’d go up with her, I knew I couldn’t turn it down.

Once we arrived, we spent a little time with the Bubs and then wandered down to the beach to read and get a little sun.

The road we walk down to get to the beach ❤

After burning the soles of my feet, and crawling back to the house, we showered and went out for dinner. Nikki ordered a hell of a seafood meal, including a salad, chowder, lobster, mussels and fries, while I ordered a salad with grilled chicken and the Bubs ordered breaded baked cod.

Just a PART of our dinner

We were all satisfied and nearly in a coma by the time we made it home for the end of the Red Sox game. By 9:45 Nikki and I were in bed and fast asleep. What losers!

Sunday morning we woke up and tried to drag our tired bodies out of bed for a run. We both went our separate ways on our run and by the time we got back to the house, the Bubs was with her daughter-in law, chatting it up, while Nikki stretched on the floor. Nikki ran for 2 and I went for 2.8, and felt like death. We showered, ate breakfast on the porch with the Bubs, and went to the beach for 2 hours with Nikki and Tricia (Nikki’s aunt).

Nikko at the end of our beach day

After eating lunch on the beach, we wandered back to the house to spend time for the Bubs on the deck.

Feels like Vermont up here

It took us a lot longer to leave, as we had to make sure Bubs was all set for the week, grabbed her bills, garbage and everything else we could do since no one will be back to help her until Wednesday.

I said I wanted to be on the road by 2, since I had things to do back in town, but we got a late start due to the chores we had to help with, and hit traffic on the back roads home and didn’t get back until 5:30 pm. Saturday morning I was struck with car sickness and was never able to shake the feeling all day yesterday, last night and all day today, so the car ride home was awful, and by the time I was home, I wanted to die.

Is it normal to have the car sickness feeling for over 36 hours? I haven’t had a fever, chills or anything so I really don’t think it’s the bug, plus I never get car sick, so I’m not sure what happened.

I’m exhausted and almost finished with laundry, and am SO excited to crawl into my bed tonight. It was a long and tiring weekend, but it felt so good to put others first and help those who need it.

Hope you all had a great weekend too… without getting car sick!

A Slow Friday

Today has DRAGGED. I cannot stop watching the clock, but that’s because I have 2 special guests that will be at my house when I get home from work. Ryan and Chelsey (my brother and his gf of 6 years)! I’m so excited to see them, even though I just saw them at Viss & Kate’s wedding on the 10th. They’ll be here only for the night as they are attending Chelsey’s childhood best friend’s wedding in Burlington, VT.

Vacationing in Napa Valley

Since today has dragged, again, I had no appetite but wanted to eat something. Again, I had a small handful of raisins and a few sunflower seeds before having my protein packed yogurt.

This just might be my new favorite yogurt concoction. Before, I have been insanely obsessed with Chobani, but after trying to grow accustomed to plain greek yogurt, I finally found the winning combo.

Chocolate Peanut Butter Yogurt ❤

Fage 2% plain greek yogurt, with a spoonful of my chocolate peanut butter protein powder, and a little trail mix. This is SO SO good.

Since my pants were feeling a little snug today, I knew I wanted a cardio focused workout this afternoon. Before heading out the door, I created my game plan.

Afternoon Workout

  • 1.5 mile run
  • 10 minutes stair climber, 36 flights
  • 10 minutes nordic trainer
  • 2 sets of 13 lat pull-down, 55 lbs.
  • Stretching
  • 2 sets of 25 medicine ball sit-ups

Feeling gooooood! Post gym I wasn’t extremely hungry when I got back to work, but decided to nosh on a banana that was soon to go bad per my standards, a Starkist 100 calorie tuna packet and about 1/3 of a sweet potato.

90 more minutes than it’s the weekend and I’m a free girl! Hope you all have a great Friday evening! 🙂

The Twins’ 2nd Birthday Party

Today was another busy day. After recovering from Friday’s wedding yesterday; I was dizzy, light-headed and nauseous, I was back in beast mode today.

Since it was raining this morning, I went to Gold’s where I ran 4 miles, attacked the stair master, and did a little core work. Unfortunately someone broke the rowing machine so I couldn’t use it. 😦

Don’t you just hate when you plan your workout ahead of time and something goes wrong to prevent you from accomplishing it all?

Morning Workout

  • 4 mile run
  • 7 minutes stair master, 30 flights
  • 2 sets of 25 medicine ball sit-ups
  • 2 sets of 20 medicine ball crunches on stability ball (regular and side)
  • 2 sets of 15 girl push-ups
  • 13 medicine ball lumberjacks
  • 13 medicine ball lumberjack squats, each side
  • Stretching

After the gym, I hurried home and got ready before heading to my cousin’s house to celebrate her twin daughters, Mia and Zoe’s 2nd birthday with my entire family.

Mia & Zoe with their MiMi

It was a HOT and humid day outside, but my cousins and aunts all had a fun time talking about everything on the deck while the men played bocce.

My Beautiful Cousin & I

My favorite part of the evening was when my cousin, Lindsay, busted out her Scentsy fondue burner. She had a display of pineapple, apples, strawberries, Oreos, Nutter Butters, and pretzels to dip into dark chocolate or caramel chocolate. The caramel chocolate was my favorite, and I might have hovered over that burner for a bit. 😛

What a wonderful day with my family. I wish tomorrow wasn’t Monday!
