Continent Pumpkin Pancakes & a New Ab Workout

Last night after work I went shopping for new pants and new boots. Well, guess what?! I failed. Twice. Maybe three times since I was so hungry and had to call it quits early on in the shopping game. I do that all the time. My raging appetite always cuts shopping short.

When I get hungry I get cranky, and when I get cranky and there’s no food in sight, my eyes turn red and I go ten kinds of crazy. I might not be THAT dramatic, but I can get grumpy if I’m thirsty or hungry, which is why my purse looks like a food cabinet. There’s always something in there, whether it be a protein bar, nuts, a banana or an apple. My ex used to always make fun of me because I would always just “whip it out,” but I’m almost positive my stash saved him more times than it did me.

I found several pairs of boots that I loved but my damn runners’ calves made it impossible to put them on buy them. Those boots are made for little girls who don’t have muscle! Make boots for those ladies with power running through their veins! Haven’t we learned that muscle is the new skinny?

After returning one sweatshirt and becoming $19.99 richer, I headed home and got to making Peanut Butter Fingers’ Pumpkin Protein Pancakes. I had trouble with my little blender and gave up on getting the batter as soupy as I had wanted, so I gave it a whirl regardless and ended up with continent pumpkin protein pancakes.

They weren’t as pumpkin-y as I was expecting, but I’m glad I gave them a go! I absolutely love her Almond Butter Pancakes, so I think her next pancake recipe I try is her Pumpkin Almond Flour Pancakes. Gonna be another rainy weekend so I think that will be on the menu!

This morning I woke up bright-eyed and bushy-tailed. I was excited to see how my legs were going to handle my am run after 3 days of hardcore workouts. My legs carried me a little farther than yesterday, but my calves and ass were burning! After my 3.3 mile run, I decided to switch up my post-run workout and did the “1-2-3 Ab Workout” that Alaine posted yesterday.

This ab workout kept my abs working straight and it was actually fun going from one exercise to the next and alternating reps. This is a keeper and it fit perfectly into the allotted time I have after my morning runs. Thanks girl!

Morning Workout

  • 3.3 mile run
  • 2 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 1-2-3 Ab Workout

This mornings breakfast was once again overnight oats. My girl Allie (I know too many Allies) who just moved to South Carolina to teach, gave me the idea of strawberry banana oats. Wham bam thank you m’am!

Strawberry Banana Overnight Oats

  • ½ cup rolled oats
  • ½ cup plain Fage Greek yogurt
  • 1/3 cup Almond Breeze Unsweetened Vanilla milk
  • Chia seeds
  • 1 tbsp strawberry jam
  • Cut-up banana – Half went in my mouth

Stomach Ache but Hungry. What’s a Girl to Do?!

My shake held me over until about 11 before I attacked my juicy Fuji apple. Halfway through I considered pulling out an almond butter packet I have in my purse but opted against it. Yes, I am VERY crazy.

About an hour later I snacked on Yoplait’s Greek yogurt that Chelsey introduced me to last weekend. She gave me a black cherry to try which I absolutely loved, but the vanilla flavor was too soupy for a greek yogurt and just didn’t do it for me. I stirred in a little of my chocolate peanut butter protein powder, but it was still just ehh.

For 2 Weight Watcher’s points, I’d much rather have my Fage 2% plain Greek yogurt. Now that shit is the bees knees.

About an hour later I hit the gym where I enjoyed a cardio focused workout. The other day I asked a trainer at the gym if I was allowed to spin when classes weren’t schedule and he gave me the green light which I’m excited about. It’s so hard to find a spinning class that I like and can fit into my schedule so it’s nice to know that I can get in some type of spinning in if I’m unable to make a class. I realize I won’t spin for as long or as hard but it’s better than nothing!

Afternoon Workout

  • 1.7 mile run
  • 10 minutes spinning
  • 5 minutes rowing
  • Stretching

I actually kicked major ass during my 10 minute spinning sesh. I worked myself hard and told myself that my lunch time workouts are so precious since I’m limited on time that if I was going to spin, then I was TRULY going to spin the real way. I did bursts in and out of position 2 and 3, had heavy resistance a majority of the time and got great intervals in. Overall I’m very pleased with my workout.

After the gym I was pretty hungry so I snacked on a Kashi Honey Almond Flax bar that I snagged last weekend from Ryan and Chelsey’s pantry, and also noshed on a bag full of sugar snap peas and home-grown cherry tomatoes.

I LOVE Kashi’s bars, some of my favorites being the Trail Mix and the Peanut Butter bars. They’re so good and a lot healthier than other versions of trail mix bars you’ll find on the shelves these days.

This was supposed to be a light snack to get a little protein in me before I had my 2nd protein shake of the day but honestly, my stomach has been hurting me for a good chunk of the day. My stomach says no, but my head says yes. And when I say head, I mean I get light headed when I’m hungry. What’s a girl to do. I think it’s the shake that’s turning my stomach. So it’s either finish the remaining half of my shake and make my stomach feel worse, or deal with light-headedness. I think I can manage another 20 minutes before heading home for the weekend.

In fun news, I’m going back to the driving range with my bestie, Allie, yes we have the same name, and then she’s coming over for dinner. I’m so excited to spend time with her again. She works 2 jobs, so in between our schedules, meetings and everything else under the sun, it can be quite hard to find a night that works for both of us.

Hitting Balls Solves Everything

The afternoon was about 10 times better than the first half of my day. There’s no surprise that a quick workout and spending time at the driving range with my best friend instantly flipped my mood.

After a quick afternoon at work, I hit the gym quickly for a brief workout before meeting up with my best friend, Allie, at the driving range.

Evening Workout

  • 1 mile run
  • 6 minutes rowing, level 4.5 – I was going to only do 5 minutes, but this lady wouldn’t STOP staring me down every 30 seconds so I kept going just to annoy her.. mature I know
  • 2 sets of 25 medicine ball sit-ups
  • 20 side-to-side medicine ball sit-ups
  • Stretching

I quickly made it to the driving range where we saw our former high school teammate, Ashley, and scored 2 for 1 buckets! Pays having connections. 😉

Tiger Who?!

Golfing was extremely fun and I would love to get to the ranges a lot more before they close for the season. After hitting balls, I whipped up chocolate peanut butter yogurt in my favorite glass.

Tim, an ex of mine from when I lived in Los Angeles, gave me a set of 4 of these glasses when he was packing up his house. The story behind the glass is unique. Tony’s On the Pier is a bar in Manhattan Beach and when you order a fire shot, it’s served in this glass, which you get to keep. Tim did a lot of shots in his days!

Alright, off to pack. This girl decided to follow through with her PA plans!

A Bombtastic Snack

Today has been a little strange at the office. First off, an employee from a different office came in today to work with my co-worker on a proposal, and at the end, he whipped his camera out and took pictures of Nichole and myself working. I felt like such a dork having to “work” while he took my picture. He wanted candids and no posing, but really, I was technically posing as a “candid worker.” Apparently these pictures will appear in a marketing magazine of some sort. I didn’t catch the name of it, as I believe it was about 20 words long. I could really care less what it’s for; I thrive on having my picture taken. Only when I look good of course.

After my sweet modeling, my stomach asked for some food, and I knew exactly what I was going to make. My base was Fage 2% plain Greek yogurt, mixed in with a tablespoon of my favorite Chocolate Peanut Butter protein powder, and topped with fresh strawberries, blueberries and raspberries (holy berries!) and sprinkled with a few sunflower seeds.

Bombtastic!

There were so many different flavors that came out in each bite, that this is now my favorite yogurt concoction. I’m finally getting accustomed to the taste of plain yogurt, quicker than I expected! Okay, well I know it’s not completely plain, but you catch my drift.

The gym was great today, aside from having to pee the entire time, but when you’re crunched for time, it makes more time to hold it and use those extra few minutes to workout instead of wasting it making a trip to the ladies’ room. Priorities people! I wanted an extra few minutes on my run.

Afternoon Workout

  • 1.3 mile run
  • 2 sets of 25 medicine ball sit-ups — this medicine ball weighed a bitchin’ ton!
  • 20 side-to-side medicine ball sit-ups
  • 10 minutes Nordic Trainer
  • Stretching

After my workout I was H-U-N-G-R-Y, and I mean it! I almost contemplated walking to the kitchen before my shower to grab lunch and risk having my coworkers see me drenched in sweat. I powered through it and opted to keep my polished appearance.

Today’s lunch was bombtastic! I made a turkey, ham and spinach sandwich, with a lil bit o’ mustard. On the side I enjoyed home-grown cherry tomatoes and cucumbers, and sugar snap peas.
