When Someone Questions Your Lifestyle

Happy Friday everybody! Is it just me or did this week feel like it flew by? With it being the first FULL week of work after a long holiday weekend, I was completely expecting it to drag, but with a training session with Heather, fro-yo with Linds, and a little Christmas shopping, the week was a blur!

I did hit a little bump in the road on Wednesday evening when I received a text message from a male acquaintance. His text message really bothered me and while I originally wasn’t going to discuss it on my blog, after taking a day to think it over, I felt it was a good topic to discuss.

If you’re a healthy living blogger, then it’s a given that you are going to discuss and post pictures of workouts and healthy meals, and I can guarantee that a majority of us enjoy using Instagram to take pictures of our food, animals and our pretty mug shots. 😉

That being said, this male who will remain nameless (because I’m honestly not trying to throw him under the bus), texted me this short and sweet message:

Do you think you’re fat or something?

Yup. My day was great, thanks for asking bucko. While I have since deleted the conversation from my phone, I do believe that was exactly what he said, word for word. My response was short, sweet, and truthful.

Not at all, I love my body. Why would you think that?

Once again, since I no longer have the conversation in my phone, the responses are as accurate as I can recall. His reasoning for thinking that I have the mindset that I’m fat is because of the tone of my posts and that my Instagram is basically a food diary. I’m not sure if my “posts” relate to what I say with the pictures or on this blog, but I honestly don’t think I’ve ever been THAT hard on myself and badgering myself with such negative thoughts like that.

I’ve never written something like, “I’m eating this yogurt/omelet/turkey sandwich because I’m fat and chunky!” I’d probably say something like, “healthy lunch/snack because I treated myself prior”, or because “I don’t feel my best and this will get me back on track.”

I was taken back and shocked by his reasoning, but I didn’t flip out on him. I tried to explain what I do and why I do in as nice as way as possible while still trying to set him right.

What I told him was basically that I’m real and say what I mean. That I love my body and am comfortable in my own skin but I’m not perfect and some days I won’t feel my best but it by no means translates into me thinking I’m fat. I informed him that I love to put healthy foods into my body and that it makes me feel good and energized, and that I connect with other like-minded individuals on Instagram by posting healthy foods so that we can find new ways to make unhealthy foods healthy.

He wasn’t mad or defensive at all about my response, in fact I think and I hope that it gave him a glimpse into what I’m truly passionate about.

Coming Together

I’m sure it’s not just me who gets harped on for the way we eat and the healthy choices we make. Healthy food tastes great to me and I love the way I feel when I choose a healthy meal over a piece of pizza or cake. Trust me, I enjoy bites of the pizza and cake, but I don’t make a meal out of it because I know my body won’t feel good consuming it.

20121130-093253.jpg
People think I’m on a diet because I enjoy lean meats, yogurt, oatmeal, fruit, veggies, and other healthier options, but no, I’m not dieting. This is what I like to eat, simple as that. I enjoy and crave these foods.

No matter where you go or the people you meet, there is always going to be someone who has a different point of view, mindset and understanding of things.

20121130-093407.jpg
The best advice I can give you is to realize that there will be haters and people who try and bring you down, but when someone doesn’t truly grasp what it is you’re passionate about (eating healthy, working out, etc.), don’t go bat crazy and verbally attack them. Breathe and collect yourself. THEN explain to them why you love your lifestyle.

Open their eyes to the world you love and hopefully they will respect your decisions and have a new understanding to the healthy living world. If they don’t, well then there’s nothing you can do expect live your life the way you want to.

Every single one of us is beautiful no matter what our size, shape and mindset, and remember, the only thing that matters is how YOU feel about yourself and that YOU love yourself. Take care of yourself first and the right people will come into your life.

Has someone ever have you a hard time for the healthy foods you eat and your determination to live a healthy life? If so, how did you overcome their opinions?

Sometimes You Just Need to Have Fro-Yo for Dinner

Last night after work I met up with my girl Lindsay for a fro-yo date and to catch up. We both found it hard to believe that it had been a month since we last saw each other. With traveling for work and being sick, it was difficult to get together, BUT we vowed to not let that much time lapse. Plus, we have plans to drool over John Cusack in Serendipity, watch Christmas movies and go shopping, so I’ll have plenty of best friend time in my future. 🙂

We met up at 5:30 at Yo-Flava, a semi-new frozen yogurt bar in Manchester that we’ve been to once before. We were so excited to see the fall and winter flavors mixed among the regular flavors.

In my bowl I went for apple pie, cheesecake and a pomegranate mix. Typically I would load my fro-yo with unhealthy toppings, including anything covered in chocolate and cookie and candy pieces. Last night, I topped my fro-yo with strawberries and blackberries to play with the cheesecake, finely diced walnuts, and a small scoop of mini chocolate morsels.

20121129-115524.jpg
I tried my best to match the toppings with the flavors since last time it was a total disaster, and I’m happy to report that I succeeded!

All that cheesecake fro-yo had me craving the REAL cheesecake in my fridge, so when I got home I HAD to have a mini slice.

What? You only live once. 😉 Plus, this morning Lindsay informed me that cheesecake is calorie free so whatevs! Treat yo’ self and live a little.

Several days ago my bestie Lisha was telling me about a new show on MTV called Catfish, and since I had the house to myself and nothing to do, I sprawled out onto the couch and put it on. Holy moly is that show addicting!

20121129-115651.jpg
One of us was bored and it wasn’t me. I had a load of laundry that had to be switched to the dryer halfway through my first episode but I couldn’t tear myself away from the show. Needless to say, after completing 2 episodes, I finally turned the show off and switched my laundry.

My priorities were very evident last night and I have no shame in the mindless television I watched or the treats I enjoyed.

**

My legs are almost back to normal, which is great, aside from the fact that the workout that murdered my midget legs is scheduled for today. I could complain about my legs not having a day to feel normal again, but I enjoy the pain because I know my body is being positively challenged. Bring it on!

Ever since starting personal training last week, I’ve scaled down my runs a little bit by about a mile or less a day. Nothing too drastic but I like the feeling I get when I wake up and don’t have to worry about trying to get in a 4 mile run. I know that even on a hard morning, I can still get in a quality 3- 3.5 miler in and feel great about myself, especially when I know I have a strength workout to look forward to later in the day that will be even more beneficial to my goals.

So this morning I enjoyed a more relaxed workout atmosphere and with the help of my favorite Good Charlotte album, The Young & the Hopeless, I made it through 3.3 miles. Seriously, that’s one of my favorite albums ever created and my personal fav from the dudes.

Morning Workout

• 3.3 mile run
• 4 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 50 heel touchers
• 1 minute plank hold
• 50 scissors
• 50 crunches
• 2 sets of 20 plank tucks
• 2 sets of 13 standing dumbbell side crunches

Breakfast

As weird as it’s been not having my overnight oats for breakfast, I’ve been enjoying my breakfast switcheroo, which in order to consume more calories a day, I’ve broken breakfast into 2 mini meals.

20121129-115844.jpg
Since I workout upon waking, you’ll have noticed that I’ve been eating half a grapefruit and a protein shake before leaving for work around 7:25ish. This not only helps with my muscle recovery from my morning workout, but it also gets my metabolism going again.

Between 9:30 and 10:15 I’ll usually enjoy the 2nd half of my breakfast, which has been a Chobani power bowl, which includes ½ tbsp. of: chia seeds, flax seeds, raw oats and sometimes PB2, depending on the yogurt flavor.

20121129-115949.jpg

Not only do I have more energy with my new breakfast routine, but I won’t lie when I say that I enjoy having 2 mini breakfasts each morning. Who doesn’t love to eat?

Do you guys switch up your breakfast daily or are you like me and a creature of habit?

Switching up the Morning Workout

Last night I felt like a little rebel child by staying up an hour past my bedtime. Instead of my typical, “be in bed reading by 9 and lights out by 10” gig, I didn’t head up until 10, and didn’t turn the TV off until the winners of Dancing with the Stars All-Stars were revealed at 11.

When Tony and Melissa were crowned the winners, I became so caught up in their happiness that I cried for them. Sounds pathetic, but if you’re a fan of the show, then you know what I’m talking about. It’s great to see 2 deserving individuals win; an overall feel good moment. And please, I didn’t ball my eyes out, it was more like several tears slid down my cheeks. 😛

Getting 1 less hour of sleep took an evident toll on me, and it didn’t help that my legs were still extremely tight and sore. I didn’t think a run would be possible, and while I contemplated crawling back into bed for an additional 30 minutes or so, I knew a walk would be better than nothing.

I grabbed my copy of The Happiness Project and got to walking. After walking half a mile, I wanted to test out my legs, and set off for a half mile run. Once I got moving I realized my legs didn’t hurt AS bad as they originally had. At that point, I knew I could get in several miles but at the same time I wanted to listen to my body, allow it to recover and not overdue it.

It felt nice to switch up my workout, and the remainder of my workout included intervals of walking and running. In the end, I ran 2.5 and walked 1.25. While I ran 1-1.5 miles less than normal, I didn’t feel bad about that because I got a great workout and it honestly didn’t feel like I skimped out on a workout either.

I finished my workout with a handful of core exercises, and plan to run 1.5 miles on my lunch along with hopefully 10 minutes on the elliptical or spin bike.

Morning Workout

  • 2.5 mile run & 1.25 mile walk
  • 15 stair push-ups
  • 50 heel touchers
  • 30 toe touchers
  • 50 scissors
  • 50 crunches
  • Stretching & foam rolling

Since I was feeling more tired than usual, I knew that last night’s Muscle Milk freebie would fit perfectly into my breakfast. Along with half of a grapefruit, I enjoyed Muscle Milk Light’s Vanilla Latte that contained caffeine. Not only did it taste like breakfast, but it was very light, didn’t weigh me down, and gave me a boost!

While I enjoyed the shake, I can’t say that I’d buy it on my own as it was just a little too sweet for me.

I also enjoyed a Chobani power bowl, which included Mango Chobani and ½ tbsp. of: chia seeds, flax seed and raw oats to round out my breakfast later in the morning, and enjoyed a banana and almonds before going to the gym on my lunch hour.

Tonight I have a fro-yo date with Lindsay and I couldn’t be any happier. I haven’t seen that gypsy since our last fro-yo date which seemed ages ago. We had fro-yo plans 2 weeks ago, but with her traveling to CT for work the last 2 weeks and me being sick, we had to cancel.

Now it’s time for me to get my big butt to the gym and finish up the work day.

Catch you guys later with a full belly and a fro-yo recap. SO EXCITED!! 🙂

Overcoming Coworkers Negativity Towards Healthy Eating Habits

The fact that I’m blogging while laying on my foam roller should be a good indication of how my legs are feeling after yesterday and today’s workout. Today I had my legs and arm workout, and originally I was worried how I’d do with my squats and step-ups since my legs were so tight, but once I warmed up on the elliptical for 10 minutes and got into my workout, the pain actually was unnoticeable.

I was able to get through the entire workout, minus 15 of my 35 minutes of cardio and 1 set of step-ups. I figure since tomorrow is an all cardio day that I can make it up then, along with those awful step-ups.

After my workout I enjoyed a homemade deluxe turkey sandwich.

The sandwich looks pretty monstrous but don’t be fooled, the lettuce was larger than life and bursting with volume.

Roughly 20 minutes after eating my lunch, my coworker Nichole, who is also an amazing baker, invited everyone to our department to celebrate Travis’ birthday with a peanut butter pie. It looked so delicious, but since I wasn’t hungry and treated myself last night with cheesecake, a piece of pie was the last thing I wanted to put into my body.

Every single time there is cake or cupcakes in the office I am given such a hard time because I don’t want to eat it because I’m either not hungry or I don’t want to wreak havoc on my healthy choices. Once again I was harassed today for not eating a slice of pie. While I know my coworkers, especially Nichole aren’t doing it to be mean, part of me believes that there is an underlying issue or unhappiness in their life where they try to make me feel bad for putting good food in my body.

I believe that we do need to treat ourselves every now and then so that we don’t feel deprived and go psycho when we come face-to-face with a box of Oreos. For me, treating myself includes several pieces of chocolate or an extra scoop of peanut butter, but ONLY when I crave it or feel like it’s been earned.

Some times the badgering gets so bad that I just grab a slice or cupcake to shut everyone up. Today I stood my ground and was involved in the celebration, just not eating the cake, and you know what, I was proud and happy that I stood my ground because I felt pretty amazing after and didn’t feel weighed down.

Have you guys ever been guilted in to eating or doing something you truly didn’t want to do or eat? If so, how do you overcome that negative attitude that’s directed at you?

It’s difficult to have coworkers who harp on me for eating healthy foods, but the only thing I can do is know that eating that way makes me feel good about myself, and at the end of the day that’s the only thing that matters.

Once I was able to escape the pie lovers, I buzzed into the gym quickly because it’s Member Appreciation Day and Muscle Milk was there giving out free drinks.

Sometimes it pays to be indecisive because the 2 girls working for Muscle Milk let me take 2 drinks for free since I couldn’t decide.

I went with Muscle Milk Light in Vanilla Latte, which has caffeine and thought this would make for a delicious breakfast, and I also chose Strawberries and Cream, thinking this would be a great afternoon protein pick me up. The girls recommended the Light chocolate, but because I’ve had it already and have chocolate protein shakes all the time, I wanted to try something new. 🙂

Since getting home from work I’ve literally done nothing except eat yogurt and peanut butter. Oh and foam roll these sore legs. I’m anxiously awaiting the finale of Dancing with the Stars, but I really am not sure how I’ll make it up until 11 pm. Why do they make these things so late?!

All I want to do is see Kelly & Val win the Mirror Ball trophy and declare their love for one another!

Until then, it’s Lifetime Christmas movie time. 🙂

Will Someone Please Chop My Legs Off?

My. Legs. Are. Killing. Me. And by “killing” I mean, painful, murderous, cringe-worthy cramping. Basically, SOS.

I know I mentioned the workout Heather put me through last night, but here’s the workout in her own words:

In my words, it’s the death workout brought to you by the fittest chick around and completed by an innocent and helpless participant; me.

My legs were so tight when I woke up that I almost crumpled to the floor when I got out of bed. I instantly knew my morning run wasn’t going to be much of a run, and I told myself if I could make it through 2 miles that that would be fantastic.

By .15 miles I wanted to cut my legs off, but I kept going and pushed through the pain and decided to run in increments of .50 miles, stretch my legs, run .50 again, stretch, and continually repeating until I had to get ready for work.

I miraculously made it to 3 miles; don’t ask me how I did that because I don’t even know. I clearly wasn’t running with my legs, so it must’ve been all heart carrying me.

Morning Workout

  • 3 mile run, .20 mile walk
  • 50 heel touchers
  • 30 toe touchers
  • 50 scissors
  • 2 sets of 50 crunches
  • 1 minute plank
  • SO MUCH STRETCHING

Before work, I enjoyed half of an undocumented grapefruit and a chocolate cookies & cream protein shake. I’ve been out of spinach for 2 days so I’ve been missing that little all-star from my morning shakes. Luckily he’ll return tomorrow!

I got hungry pretty quickly at work, and tried a new version of oatmeal. Plain oatmeal with almond milk with a chunk of PB2 on top. Verdict: Awful. Not too sure what all those crazy bloggers are talking about when they rave about this! 😉

After several bites and a full stomach, I tossed about ¾ of the bowl in the trash. It was too bland and not worth the calories. What a perfectly good waste of my PB2! Is there a secret to this bowl to make it delish? I think my issue was that I pre-cooked the oats last night and reheated the bowl this morning. Probably just not enough peanut butter. Duh!

My hunger has held off for the most part all morning, but with my legs & arms workout scheduled for my lunch break, I know I’ll need fuel, so I’m enjoying a mushy apple and a handful of almonds.

Now it’s time for my legs & arms workout. Poor legs!

I’m soooo dreading my 4 sets of 30 step-ups!

P.S, what’s the weather like in your area today?

It just started snowing in New Hampshire!

Seizing Legs and Momma’s Birthday!

What a workout Heather put me through this evening. She had my legs shaking and seizing like an earthquake, and at one point when I mentioned how sweaty I was, she pointed out that I was so drenched that it looked like I had just showered. Aint that sexy!

I was literally dripping sweat onto the floor with every body movement. So stinkin’ gross!

Heather had my workout centered around the dredded Smith Machine, where I did 3 sets of 10 squats with different variations with my stance. The first I was wide legged, the 2nd set my feet were shoulder-width apart, and the 3rd set my feet were together. Heather then put my through sumo squats, before I did weighted bar lunges and shoulder work.

Thankfully my cousin Nikki who was at the gym taking a spinning class came over to say bye to me after her class and she saved me by giving me a quick breather in between sets.

Then it was back to Heather kicking my ass, but I love the pain. She makes pain feel so good, and she laughs at my jokes so I couldn’t ask for a better trainer. 😉

When I got home I fixed myself another batch of 3-Ingredient Healthy Pancakes, before we started to celebrate my Mom’s birthday and my parent’s 32nd wedding anniversary.

My Mom got her favorite Yankee Candle, Pink Sands, along with the car freshener, a book, an Imax and Nook gift card, a sweater and tank top and Bath & Body Works Christmas scented plug-ins.

Ryan and I also got them a $75 gift card to The Library, an expensive restaurant they went to on the seacoast for their anniversary last year.

Then it was time to celebrate with strawberry cheesecake.

Oh my goodness. I dug right into my slice and didn’t feel guilty one bit. Hey, I kicked ass at the gym this evening so it was earned!

Now I’m snuggled on the couch and watching the 2-night finale of Dancing with the Stars. Go Kelly & Val!

I’ve Got a Double Whammy Post-Holiday Monday Blues

I don’t know about you guys, but it sure was difficult to get up this morning, plus it didn’t help that I stayed up until 10 pm watching Hitched for the Holidays, with heartthrob Joey Lawrence.

Typically I am in bed and reading from 9 until 10, or before if I’m exhausted, that way I don’t have the annoying TV syndrome to keep me wired and awake late into the night. Last night I made an exception since I was in the holiday mood, and I just have to gush over how funny and cute the movie was!

By the time I was in brushed and in bed, it was a little after 10, and I HAD to listen to Lisha explain a new show on MTV, so I was ready for shuteye around quarter of 11. Ick.

In all seriousness, have you guys heard of the show called, Catfish? We think the title is a ripoff of Plentyoffish. According to Lisha, it’s almost like, “True Life,” but the people on the show have been dating someone online for years + and they contact this man who I’m assuming is the host of the show to schedule a meeting.

Just read Lisha’s descriptions:

Basically I NEED to watch this show, especially since I love online dating! Luckily I’ve never had horror stories like this before, and only some guys have looked a little different in person.

**

This morning I woke up 5 minutes before my alarm was scheduled to go off. Isn’t that the worst? I was so excited to look at the clock and get a warm greeting that I still had several extra hours to sleep, but not this morning.

I dragged myself out of bed and pouted in the bathroom before I went for a miserable run. My body is definitely not used to running this early, even if it had only been since Wednesday that I ran at 6.

Morning Workout

  • 3.7 mile run
  • 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 1 minute plank and 30 seconds each side
  • 50 crunches and 50 side-to-side crunches
  • 50 heel touchers
  • 100’s abs
  • 30 scissors
  • Stretching

It felt great to be pressed for time again and be able to get down to business with my workouts. I think lacking that time frame to get my workouts in on the weekends result in me ignoring my core or strength work. I lollygag on the weekends, what can I say, it’s a talent.

Before heading out the door to work, I enjoyed half of a juicy grapefruit and a chocolate cookies & cream protein shake. I had to mix it up this morning since I ran out of the protein I was using before, but damn, that shake was so satisfying!

I didn’t have time to snap a picture but into the shake went:

  • 8 oz almond milk
  • ½ scoop each of chocolate protein and cookies & cream protein
  • Handful of ice cubes
  • 3 frozen banana slices

2 hours later I had a more substantial 2nd half of my breakfast and enjoyed a Chobani power bowl which included Mango Chobani and ½ TBSP each of: flax seed, raw oatmeal and chia seeds.

Delish!

I have about half a day left of work before I have my 2nd training session with Heather, my personal trainer!

And a special Happy Birthday to my mom and an extra special Happy Anniversary to parents!

3-Ingredient Healthy Pancakes, Christmas Shopping & Joey Lawrence

The past 2 afternoons I have spent Christmas shopping at the Outlets and the Mall. I seriously need to stop this shopping or at least learn to do it all in one day.

When I entered Macy’s, I was greeted with Santa’s Mail Box and a table for the kiddos to write their letters to Santa. I held back from writing a letter, in fact, I was going to get in closer for an additional picture of the letters, but I heard a girl behind me ask if she could write one and I felt just a little creepy hovering over the table. 3 years ago when Mike and I were Christmas shopping, we stopped at the table so that I could write a letter to Santa. Yes, as a junior in college I asked Santa to make Jay, my college boyfriend, my official boyfriend.

I browsed around Le Gourmet Chef and fell in LOVE with these cookie dishes and holders. I’m debating purchasing a few for my family’s Yankee Swap, or just for myself. 😉

I also hovered over the graham cracker pretzels and gingerbread dip for a little too long. The combo of both flavors created a party in my mouth and I could easily see myself eating the entire jar in one sitting.

After a day of shopping I went to Gold’s to complete my legs and arms workout before going home to demolish my healthy 3-ingredient pancakes.

The texture, taste, and appearance were the best yet. So perfect. This time, I played around with the amounts of ingredients and am happy to report that this is a recipe to keep!

3 Ingredient Healthy Pancakes

  • 2 eggs
  • 1/2 banana mashed
  • 1 tbsp coconut flour

All you have to do is combine the above ingredients in a bowl, whisk it together until you can get a majority of the coconut clumps out, and pour 2 equal sized pancakes on a pan. After that, just monitor the pancakes to get your desired look. I personally love them crispy and lightly browned.

*I do have to mention that I did need to add a splash of almond milk to the batter to thin it out a bit, so it technically should be 4 ingredient pancakes but I do what I want! 😉

Sunday

Today hasn’t been too exciting to report a full-on novel, but for those who actually care, here are the highlights:

  • 4 mile run, 1 mile walk, core and back work at the gym
  • Christmas shopping
  • the official start of the Christmas Pandora station.. woo woo! 🙂
  • Christmas with the Kranks & Home Alone

Now I’m off to prep tomorrow’s meals before watching Hitched for the Holidays, a Hallmark Christmas movie with the hunkanator, Joey Lawrence. He better have his shirt off so I can drool over his lovely muscles! 😉

P.S, back to work tomorrow to end the holiday weekend. Eww.

College Reunion and Invading Guy’s Night

Friday

After Ryan and I stopped playing house tag, we finally were able to have a little sibling bonding for his short, one evening stay.

His best friends were coming over that night to kick off their guy’s weekend, as Viss and his wife are moving to San Diego in several weeks. Since the guys were coming here for dinner so that I could say goodbye to Viss, Ryan and I went to Shaw’s to prepare.

Don’t worry, that jalapeno isn’t for some sick and twisted drinking game, it was for Ryan’s homemade burgers!

That’s one big burger! That’s something you’d expect to see eaten on Man vs. Food. While Ryan was in charge of making the burgers, I had veggie duty.

While the boys drank beer with my Dad while he grilled, my Mom and I were inside setting the table and getting everything ready. Such good teamwork. 🙂

Like always, my Dad outdid himself and prepared an amazing meal of steak, chicken and burgers. This meal put me into that food coma that I managed to avoid on Thanksgiving. Guess I didn’t luck out this year!

After cleaning up, the boys put their best shirts on and goofed off a bit before hitting the bars. Since it was a guy’s night and I was in a full on coma, I was more than happy to chauffeur the boys to the bar.

Squished in the back of my car were Cheddah, KZac and Viss… also known to non-friends as Tom, Ryan and Jay. Brother Ryan was quick and called shotgun, so he was laughing happily while the boys were cramped up.

By the time I got home it was roughly quarter of 11, so I changed into my pj’s and curled into bed and read The Happiness Project.

Saturday

This morning I enjoyed a laughter filled breakfast with the boys, while they enjoyed their bagels and fruit, and I went for a Chobani power bowl.

On the side I also enjoyed half of my Aunt’s famous pumpkin bread that she gives out when we leave Thanksgiving night. This breakfast was light but filling and fueled me through my 4 mile run this morning.

Now, after cleaning the bathrooms (so glamorous), I’m all showered and ready to finish up my Christmas shopping!

Black Friday Shopping & Working Out!

Are all of you Black Friday shoppers finally waking up from your afternoon naps?

I didn’t do any crazy shopping today, BUT I did wait until all the crazies finished up and went to grab a few items when the crowds died down. Before I get into that jazz, let me give you a Thanksgiving Day recap!

Thanksgiving

After my workout in the morning, I snuggled Kip quickly before heading up to my uncle’s.

Usually we have a group of 30 family members at Thanksgiving, but we basically had only half of that. 😦 My cousin and her husband were with his family, my lame brother was with his fiancée (his FIRST Thanksgiving he’s ditched us for!), and my cousin and her husband and 4 kiddos were up at his family. AND my other cousin was stuck working.

After that, we were down 10, and 4 other family members came after the meal so it was a very very quiet dinner, but it was intimate and full of laughs.

If you see those little poppers, that’s where those crowns came from. We’re not all freaks. 😉

Look at that turkey! My uncle is one serious turkey cooker. 🙂

I made sure to load my plate up with 2 slices of canned cranberry sauce (the only way to do it!), stuffing, turkey, carrots, olives and bread and butter pickles.

I didn’t have the biggest appetite but I made sure to demolish the cranberry sauce and stuffing. After eating and cleaning up, the boys threw a football around while a few of us started a fire.

And stayed out there for a handful of hours just shooting the shit. Actually, I stayed out for as long as possible to stay away from my aunt’s addicting dessert. I typically eat half of her batch at Easter, Thanksgiving and Christmas. That’s not even an exaggeration. I always end up lying on the floor in pain.

We eventually did come inside and enjoyed desserts.

While Jay went for the mile long piece of turkey skin. Ick!

We spent the remainder of the evening talking and watching the Patriots kick total butt! When my uncles called the house phone from the couch upstairs asking for pie, my other uncle decided to have a little fun and with the help of my aunt, got dressed in a waitress’ outfit.

I’m so proud of my uncle! My family is pretty crazy and I wouldn’t trade them for the world.

Around 10:30 I headed home, and since I drove by a Target, I decided to pop in to check the sales out. The parking lot was crazy, but I ended up leaving empty-handed.

This morning I woke up feeling light and great, unlike previous years where  I feel plump and gross. I set out for a painless and easy 5 mile HIIT run at the gym followed up with 15 minutes on the elliptical before hitting Target again and venturing off to the mall later in the afternoon to pick up some items for my Mom.

Now, I’m back home and my brother Ryan finally arrived, so it’s time to hang out with him for the rest of the evening before he leaves tomorrow!
