Happy Halloween my Peanut Butter Lovers!

This mornings’ run was murderous on both my legs and stomach. Last nights ice bath did absolutely nothing in aiding in a quicker leg recovery, and the probiotic chews I took last night clearly kicked in, as I found myself hunched over in a ball and also doubling over at least 5 times during my run. If you’ve ever experienced stabbing pains in your obliques, then you know exactly that pain I was feeling.

That being said, todays run sucked, and it showed. I was only able to complete 3 miles, but I did throw in Tina’s Wednesday 8-Minute Plank Workout that’s part of her 4-Week Plank Challenge.

Bloody hell.

Guess what, that plank workout wasn’t this weeks’ Wednesday plank challenge. It didn’t occur to me until after I finished the workout that Tina would be giving us a NEW challenge every Wednesday. Opps.

I’ll be doing the REAL Wednesday’s plank challenge this evening after I complete P90X Shoulders & Arms. My core is going to LOVE me today! 😉

For breakfast I enjoyed a bowl of my Raspberry Mango Overnight Oats. In my 24 ½ years of living, this has to easily be my favorite and most filling breakfast.  Let me rephrase that. It’s my favorite HEALTHY meal that I’ve enjoyed for breakfast since I’ve been gracing this world.

Some of my favorite unhealthy breakfasts include:

  • Dunkin Donuts Strawberry Frosted Donut – Daddio used to get me one every Sunday morning on his way home from the store
  • Strawberry Frosted Poptarts
  • Strawberry Toaster Strudels

(Holy shit can you tell I was a strawberry frosted anything addict?!)

  • Cereals: Peanut Butter Capt’n Crunch, Reese’s Puffs, Oreo O’s (BEST CEREAL EVA!)
  • Egg & Cheese Breakfast Sandwiches courtesy Salmo food court at Bryant University
  • Raspberry Scones – college fat days

Wow, no wonder I had a lot of extra weight hanging around my tiny frame.

Now that I’m health conscience, my favorite go-to breakfast meals include:

  • Overnight oats
  • Chobani yogurt — seriously I eat at least one a day- ADDICT!!
  • Chocolate PB Protein Shake
  • Egg Sandwich
  • Healthified Pancakes

My overnight oats bowls are life changing, but I’d kill for a bowl of Oreo O’s right now!

What were some of your favorite breakfast meals growing up?

On my lunch break I was back at the gym for a cardio heavy hodgepodge workout that left me a sweat bomb. I started with a 2 mile run, hopped onto a bike for a 10 minute spinning session with climbs and sprints, and finished it up with 10 minutes on the elliptical while I stayed up to date with the hunky Anderson Cooper.

I was one hungry girl after my workout, so I went right for my lunch.

No garbage scramble for this girl!

Today I enjoyed a bowl of spaghetti squash with ground turkey, diced tomatoes, and a mango salsa mixed in. This was SO good and gone within 2 minutes.

Now I’m just getting ready to hand out candy to the trick-or-treaters, and since we only have about 30 or less kids stop by, I’ll be doing my P90X and Plank challenge workouts in between.

Check in later tonight for a yummy healthy protein cookie I’ll be whipping up!

Happy Halloween!

Bloating Like a Mofo

Last night I went to Target to pick up several items on my list when I was mesmerized and pulled-in by all of the Christmas decorations and items.

CHRISTMAS IS HERE!!

I freakin’ LOVE Christmas. I start watching Christmas movies in the summer. What’s wrong with that?

There were so many cute dinner and salad plates, serving bowls, tumblers and SO MUCH MORE. Sorry for the caps, just so stinkin’ excited! I’ll be picking up some cute Christmas items this weekend for sure! Good thing I get payed on Thursday. 😉

While browsing I also came across a set of A Christmas Story themed glass drink ware.

A Christmas Story is my all-time favorite Christmas movie, so I seriously need someone to buy me these for Christmas. At $19.99 I cannot justify them, unless of course they go on sale. Eh watch me post this weekend about buying them. Oops!

While at Target, I also picked up Acai & Pomegranate (that’s a weird spelling word) Coconut water that tasted like ass cheeks. 1 sip and I dumped it. After a cute gagging session of course. I can’t be pretty and classy all the time now guys.

My 2 favorite purchases included Schuff Digestive Advantage Probiotic Soft Chews and Rimmel London Stay Glossy lip gloss.

Ladies, your lips must always appear kissable, and of course because if you’re going to bloat after eating anything (healthy or non-healthy), you may as well take a probiotic that tastes like candy! 😉

In all seriousness, I truly hope these probiotics help. I haven’t touched upon this on my blog, but it seems that no matter how much I workout and how healthy I eat, my stomach can balloon and become bloated with the flick of a switch. It’s extremely discouraging to see my hard work and efforts be short-lived because of an inbalance in my colon. I plan on giving these bad boys a trial run for about a month, and if there’s no change, I’ll have to be in talks with my doctor.

Do you guys have digestive issues relating to bloating after eating even the healthiest meal?

Ok, Target’s Christmas section is calling my name. Maybeeeeee a Christmas shopping spree is necessary this evening.

Cable’s Back = Geeking Out

We finally have our cable back which means I can blog again from my computer! So happy I’m geeking out! 🙂

Let’s get to this afternoon’s eats.

Lunch:

For lunch I enjoyed Sara Lee Low Sodium Turkey roll-ups with cherry tomatoes. I wanted something light and filling since I was skipping my lunch to leave work an hour early.

An hour later I sprinkled a little bit of PB2 on the sweet potato slices for a sweet afternoon snack.

I might have celebrated Halloween a day early with a Cookies & Cream Hershey’s fun-size bar.

Okay, so we really had the fun-sized candy in the marketing department for a trade show tomorrow, but we’ll just go with the Halloween idea. 😉

Todays outfit:

Plaid Button-Down: J.Crew

Black Jeggings: American Eagle

Cheetah Flats: Bandolino (DSW)

Purse: Steve Madden

After leaving work an hour early, I went for a 1-mile warm up run and followed it with the P90X Pylometrics workout.

I was a freakin’ beast! I literally rung sweat from that mofo. My legs were extremely tight, especially after running outside all weekend, so I plopped myself into a much-needed ice bath.

My little legs are so sore and my eyes are getting heavy. Time to chip away at Gone Girl. It was due today and I’m not allowed to renew it since there’s a long wait for it so I’m trying to read it quickly. Stinkin’ late fees are no fun!

A Tree Through My Brother’s Window

While Sandy raged throughout the East Coast, I had Gone Girl and my furball son to keep me safe. A boyfriend would have been better, but sadly there are no prospects on the horizon. Well there is one hunk, who I’d like a chance with.

If he doesn’t work, do you think I can lure handsome hunks in with some Halloween candy?

My friends from near and far all sent texts making sure I was okay.

20121030-141544.jpg

I love B. He was my roomie in Los Angeles, and also the man who made me walk 4 miles on my birthday for my sushi dinner. Ass Sweetheart.

20121030-141637.jpg

B.Mays is my girl from Iowa. How’d a New Hampshire chick find a solid friend in Iowa? It’s all thanks to being team members for Dashboard Confessional’s street team 3 years ago. Yes, we were cool.

Some of my other street team favs include Anthony, Lindsay and Shauna. Love you my little munchkins!

While we didn’t get hit too badly, aside from flooding and downed trees, last night I received word that a tree went through my brother and sister-in-laws bedroom window! And to think I was there this past weekend.

20121030-141838.jpg

20121030-141952.jpg

The former Mayor lives across the street from them so luckily he offered his help to Ryan and Chelsey. The police came and told them to move everything out of their living room, which is right below their bedroom on the first floor. This is because when the tree is cut into pieces and removed, remnants and limbs might go through the living room windows as well.

I’m thankful Ry, Chels and little bitty Henrique are safe. Remember the other night how I said I’d consider moving to Harrisburg when I relocate? HA!

All things aside, I woke up to a house with power, which meant I was able to get my run in.

Morning Workout

• 3.5 mile run
• 3 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• :30 second plank holds, regular and both sides
• 2 sets of 20 mountain climbers
• 50 crunches & 50 side-to-side crunches
• 2 sets of 100s Abs
• Stretching

I had a quick make-out sesh with my bowl of Raspberry Mango Overnight Oats. This is the most committed I’ve ever been in a relationship. I kid. Speaking of relationships, today marks my 6-month anniversary with my current firm. THAT’S IT?!

Back to this work relationship thing my career.

It’s Always the Girl Storms That Are a Problem

Hurricane Sandy has made her presence known and I’m hoping she leaves soon! She’s causing a little bit of drama and I want her out.

The head of Marketing released our department around 3:30, and when we made it across the street, the parking lot was deserted. Clearly everyone left earlier in the day. Gold’s Gym also closed early, making the parking lot appear even more of a ghost town.

Jen (in purple) and I were smart in taking an early lunch and going to Gold’s around 12:30 before they closed. I got in a cardio session that included a 1.5 mile run and 20 minutes on the elliptical. Never enough time!

I was able to catch up on Hurricane Sandy while ellipticizing. This bitch is a nasty one!

After leaving work, I literally threw myself in my car to get cover, and upon starting my engine, I was welcomed with the red gas light. Cool. Almost out of gas in the middle of a hurricane. No big deal at all.

I made it home and was lucky enough to be able to turn onto my street before the road was closed. It’s hard to tell, but under the 3rd dot on the lines on the left hand side of the road, there’s a tree down. Trees are always falling left and right on that street, it’s scary.

I was told prior to coming home not to park in the garage in case we lose power in the middle of the night, so instead, I parked in front of the door. Well, apparently the wind didn’t want to play basketball and knocked our hoop down.

With 3 feet to spare, my sweet Jax was spared from injury. Talk about a heart attack car!

It’s been a good night and so far we still have power. Knock on wood. I completed Chest & Back of P90X, prepared spaghetti squash for the week and am now about to cozy up with Gone Girl and my favorite Yankee Candle, Meadow Showers.

Hope everyone on the East Coast is staying safe. If you’re out of Sandy’s path, be thankful! The winds are picking up pretty heavily. If you see a post tomorrow you’ll know Sandy didn’t blow me away. 🙂

Go Away Hurricane Sandy

While I love visiting Ryan & Chelsey in Harrisburg, it’s always nice to be back home, falling asleep in my big, fluffy bed with my little Jake-a-bean snuggled by my feet. If they didn’t live 7-8 hours away I would try and get down there once a month, but it’s really only doable with a long weekend. While they’ve hinted at me taking their spare room, Harrisburg is very much so on my list of potential relocation areas that I’m consider in a handful of months.

20121029-114046.jpg

They live one block from the river front, which means daily runs by the river. Yes please! The downtown is cute and not overwhelming, and they have awesome friends who I’ve been able to meet every time I visit. It’d also make it a lot easier helping the bride-to-be plan her wedding!

The downside is that they still get snow and cold weather. Talk about a total con!

I was SO happy to be reunited with my bowl of overnight oats this morning. I went TWO days without the oatty goodness. TWO days. Cold turkey. I was going crazy without my precious oats, and demolished the bowl in seconds flat.

Such a good way to start my Monday off. Oh speaking of having a good Monday, we are officially in a State of Emergency as Hurricane Sandy makes her way up state. That’s cool, really cool. New Jersey and New York are currently getting hit extremely hard. Check out the pictures courtesy of the Today Show.

20121029-114215.jpg

I hope everyone is staying safe! You never know if a storm like this will actually play out to its full potential. I certainly hope it’s a fluke and we don’t flood or lose power!

I’ve run in a Tsunami warning before, so this little Sandy girl can’t stop me.

Morning Workout

• 4 mile run
• 1:21 plank hold
• 50 mountain climbers
• 4 sets of 15 stair push-ups
• 50 crunches & 50 side-to-side crunches
• 50 scissors
• Stretching

Today was the time trial day of Tina’s 4-Week Plank Challenge, and if you recall, Friday’s time was 1:17, which means I held it for an additional 4 seconds. 4 seconds is 4 seconds.

The Governor has urged all companies to send workers home early and to be off of the roads by 3pm at the latest. I’m hoping that my boss lets us out early, so I’m about to take my lunch around 12:30 instead of 1:30. After a weekend of unhealthy eating and minimal cardio, I’m craving a sweaty cardio session.

Causing Trouble in Amish Country

Today was different. Extremely different. I’m talking Amish different.

While debating on what we wanted to do today, Chelsey recommended that we head to Lancaster to take a buggy tour of Amish Country.

We went to Aaron & Jessica’s Buggy Rides, where we took the “Amish Town Tour,” which was a 4 mile tour passing an Amish village, businesses, and an All Amish Farm area.

The tour was extremely fun, and it was such a culture shock to see how the Amish live. If you ever find yourself in an Amish country, or close to one, I highly suggest you visit the area. We stopped at one house and the husband brought out chocolate chip cookies, honey mustard pretzels and root beer, all of which were homemade. Each were $2, and we settled on the honey mustard pretzels and root beer.

I’m a die-hard honey mustard pretzel fan, but these were thick and chock-full of an excessive amount of honey mustard seasoning.

I found the golden ticket honey mustard pretzel! 🙂 I wish they were all that well seasoned, but regardless, a normal bag of these pretzels at the grocery store just won’t compete with these.

I might move to Amish Country just to have a life-time supply of these bad boys!

The Amish also make their own….. PEANUT BUTTER!

And then I found more….

I also came across an entire counter full of free samples of various types of homemade jams.

You can bet this girl immediately located the jar of Peanut Butter Schmier.

I ate roughly half of this jar before I found free samples of pretzels, caramel popcorn, nuts and raisin bread with globs of butter. And that there was my Saturday lunch.

Upon leaving with full bellies, we made it back to Ryan & Chelsey’s house and popped the champagne to celebrate their engagement. While I was in the other room, Ryan found my glasses and is now Harrisburg’s newest hipster.

Before we knew it 6:30 rolled around so we changed into nicer clothes and drove into Hershey for an engagement dinner at the Hershey Tavern.

We ordered a crab dip that was demolished within a matter of minutes.

My salad also came with lemon poppy-seed sweet bread, which came out BEFORE my salad did. Dessert before dinner? Yes please! Since I ate too many sweets and junk food today, I took 2 miniscule bites and gave the rest to Ryan.

When my salad came, I was in heaven. I chose the Grilled Chicken Cranberry Salad, which was full of craisins, blue cheese crumbles, pecans and a sliced pear. This was so good, I just wish I had more of an appetite for it.

We’re enjoying a lazy night in after a full day of eating unhealthy foods. We have a DVD of stand-up comedian Jeff Heffron playing while I’m going through the weekends’ pictures. This guy is funny, check him out!

I feel disgusting from this weekend of eating so I’m looking forward to getting home and eating clean again. My parents and I will be heading out around 10 tomorrow morning so I plan on waking around 7 for an intense run and workout by the river.

Hope everyone’s having a great Saturday night!

When the Sexiest Man Dresses up as Christian Grey

Friday

Once we arrived in Harrisburg yesterday afternoon, I threw on my running clothes and went for a run along the Sasquanna River, while Ry and Chels gave my parents a tour of their house.

Since I went for a 2 mile morning run before the drive, I only completed 2.15 miles. After a quick run, I met up with Ry and my parents who went for a walk along the river front while Chelsey finished up work.

After we relaxed and showered for the evening, we all made our own burgers, where we chose between turkey and ground beef as the base of the burger and add-ins, including different types of pepper and seasonings.

Undocumented were the best rendition on carrots. CARROT CHIPS! These were my favorite part of the meal, and you’ll be sure to see carrot chips in the next few days on here.

After dinner, we got dressed and headed a block over to Chelsey’s old house to attend her former roommate’s Halloween party.

I donned black skinny jeans, a black belt, red and black stripped suspenders, a beanie, hipster glasses and a too small white t-shirt. I give you the hipster nerd, as Chelsey deemed me.

Adam, who was one of Chelsey’s former roommates, dressed up as Christian Grey, with an eye mask, whip, and cuffs linked to his belt.

I’ve always been extremely attracted to him, but once he told me who he was, I nearly dropped my pants and bent over. I would have taken an ass whipping from him any day. Ow ow!!

The skeleton bride and groom!

Serial killer and the detective!

What a fun night out!

Saturday Morning

Today I woke up around 9:30 and laced up my running shoes to tackle a quick 3.7 mile run along the water front while the rest of the house woke up and ate breakfast.

I then came back and snacked on a bowl of Ryan’s homemade granola, which he used Naked Protein Granola, Walnuts, Sunflower Seeds and Almonds in it. Talk about addicting!

I’m not a fan of drinking milk but the Silk milk my brother drinks was so sweet and yummy that I started drinking bowlfuls of it!

Once we were all showered up we headed to Lancaster, PA to explore Amish country. Check back later for a post on our Amish day. For now, it’s time for an engagement dinner!

Last Minute Packing & Long Drives

In between my P90X, shopping & overheating in the mall (yes I said overheating and not overeating – I get extremely hot when I’m starving!), and doing laundry, I was more than ready for bed by 9. Unfortunately I had laundry in the dryer and a bag that still had to be packed. Every trip I wait until the night of to pack, and then stress over having clothes in the dryer at 10. I clearly stopped learning completely when I graduated from college years ago.

Are you guys last-minute packers or do you have everything packed up with plenty of time to spare to relax?

Last night I purchased 2 winning items. I got new glasses. They’re hipster and I’m obsessed. I also picked up Further Seems Forever new album, Penny Black.

I’m not the biggest fan of this genre of music but Chris is my boy and I need to support my babe, plus their first single, So Cold is SO flippin’ good!!!!!!! Yes, all those exclamation points were extremely necessary.

Fun Fact Friday

Here’s a fun fact for you. My tattoo relates to Chris.

When it was time for bed I was wide-awake, go figure, so I only grabbed a few hours of sleep. Regardless, I woke at 5 am to get a quick workout in so that I when I arrived in Harrisburg I wouldn’t have to take TOO much time from the afternoon to run and do P90X.

Morning Workout

  • 2 mile run
  • 2 sets of 15 stair push-ups
  • 20 mountain climbers
  • 2 sets of 13 standing side dumbbell crunches
  • 1:17 minute plank hold

In accordance with Tina’s 4-Week Plank Challenge, today is a time trial in which I would attempt to hold my regular plank longer than Tuesday’s plank hold.

For those of you who were uninterested in clicking the above link, I DID IT! I held it for an additional 10 seconds. High fives anyone?

Right now I’m blogging from the car. For once I’m not the driver. Shout out to ol’ man Lewis for stepping up. My bro and his fiancé (sounds so weird saying that, but I love it!) were supposed to host both of our families this weekend, but unfortunately Chelsey’s Mom was officially diagnosed with the flu so her parents won’t be able to make it. Such a bummer, they’re so much fun! Hope you feel better soon Mrs. Rink!

Within the first 25 minutes of the trip I was already car sick and ready to blow chunks. Since the drive typically takes anywhere from 7 to 8 hours, I was extremely nervous that it was going to be a miserable ride, but luckily after about an hour the feeling passed. I normally don’t get car sick, so I’m blaming it on the fact that I stupidly took supplements on an empty stomach. Dohhhhh!

We still have about 4 ½ hours left in the drive so I’m going to have to start entertaining myself. I have several fitness magazines to get through and also have Gone Girl to read.

As part of Peanut Butter Finger’s book club, Gone Girl was actually the September book, but my library was a little slow in getting it to me. I placed myself on the wait list in August and I just received it last week! I might be nearly 2 months late but better late than never right? Plus, I finished October’s book 13 Reasons Why in 3 sittings so at least I’ll be able to participate in the Book Club discussion this month!

Alright, off to read, I’ll catch up soon!

Sticky Granola Bars & Planko X Sweat

You know when you eat something that is deliciously amazing and then realize that it was made with incredibly dirt nasty ingredients and you get sick to your stomach?

I lived that moment today when I snacked on a granola bar before working out. I wasn’t all too hungry but I wanted something small with staying power to get me through my workout before lunch.

I reached for the Cascadian Farm organic Chocolate Chip Chewy Granola Bar that Jen grabbed for me this past weekend and went to town.

The first bite and I was in love! It should be renamed to the Incredible Chewy Granola Bar, since that’s exactly what it was. There were so many chocolate chips jammed into the sample sized bar! Pure heaven.

Then I turned the bar over on accident and was disgusted.

Look at all that dried syrup, oil and sugar just screaming for attention.

Gross!

Now I know why it was stuck in the wrapper and then stuck to my hand.

So I had a little fun in mocking how unhealthy the granola bar is.

Before I saw the bottom of the bar, I had convinced myself upon the first bite that I’d be buying a box of these. Now, I don’t think that’ll be happening. Just because a product is labeled “organic” does not by any means consider it healthy.

It was sooooo good though! Almost as good as that fro-yo. 😉

My afternoon run left me feeling amazing. The 2 miles flew by and the only time I had to stop was to wipe the sweat out of my eyes, off my forehead, cheeks, and mouth. Ladies and gentlemen, I sweat pretty.

I finished my run with 15 minutes on the vertical elliptical before heading back to shower and enjoy my garbage scramble. I haven’t enjoyed one of those lovely scrambles in an earth shattering few days so it enjoyed a nice welcome back fiesta!

My weekend has begun! Since I’ll have a busy weekend, I switched today and tomorrows P90X workouts and just completed Plank X.

Check out that P90X sweat. Ya baby!!

Time to go do laundry, hit the mall to grab some suspenders and glasses for this weekend, and pack my little heart away!
