“Your Legs Don’t Need to Seize Like a Crazy Person!”

Check out what I scored at work today! A coworker brought in extra veggies from her garden and Nichole knew the health junkie I am and told me about the free stash in the kitchen. You bet your butt I hustled to the kitchen and grabbed a squash, and modeled my victory to Jen, who proclaimed me a dork. I actually left the day with two squashes, as the second squash that I left in the kitchen for someone else remained there all day. Fair game suckas!

After work, Jen and I packed up our cars with our work and work clothes and then headed into Gold’s, where we set up our equipment in the class room. We talked for about 7 minutes about relationships and exes before Kris, the instructor came in.


Boot camp was AWESOME! I’ve never been so challenged in an exercise or class, and it felt great. By the time the class was halfway through I was laughing, giggling, smiling, and just high on endorphins. I can’t even remember everything Kris made us do, but we did way too many squats, jumping jacks, jump rope, lunges, crunches, push-ups, planks, bicep curls, rows, shoulder presses with squats. There was so much more and all of these were intertwined. Jen and I joked that our boss would probably wonder what was wrong when we limped, hobbled and crawled around the office tomorrow. All I know is that this workout was more than worth it.

After class, I introduced myself to Kris, as I had emailed her last week with questions about spinning, which she had answered so informatively last week. Kris was so excited to meet me and thanked me multiple times for talking to her after class. She told me to ease into classes and not to go all out at first in spinning, and that I kicked ass tonight. I can’t wait to take her boot camp class every Tuesday, and I’m going to peruse the schedule to figure our some of her other classes that I can take and that fit into my schedule.

Successful night! Now off to go relax with my book and hopefully call it an early night. This girl is exhausted!

Frumpy Dumpy

The frumpy feeling that I woke up with has continued throughout the day, and it’s just making me feel “off,” a feeling I absolutely cannot stand. After meeting with several of our head engineers, I went back to my office to fuel up with a Chobani yogurt before my lunch time gym session.

Mango Madness

I had the “I feel gross, don’t wanna do anything” thought running through my mind, but I’ve never regretted a workout and always feel better after, so I sucked it up and went for a quick 1.3 mile run. I wanted to get a little something in, but wanted to take it easy since I have boot camp tonight with Jen. Ugh. Wah. Kill me.

After my run and shower, I was famished, so I scarfed down this AH-MAZING turkey wrap that also included grilled squash and zucchini, orange peppers, lettuce, carrots and mustard. It was so delicious and filling, although it was a little soggy from the olive oil the veggies were marinated in. That didn’t stop me from eating it, but lesson learned!

Boot Camp: A traditional class with high energy! This class combines high and low impact along with sport specific drills, light weights for toning and the use of jumping rope for coordination; it will also incorporate the use of the step.

Why oh why I asked Jen to do this with me is beyond me, but like I just said, I’ve never regretted a workout and I’m so excited to incorporate new exercises and classes into my life. Let’s just hope I don’t puke!


Chocolate Overload.. There IS Such a Thing

After a night of eating too many chocolate chips (damn baking!) and lack of sleep, I woke up feeling like I got hit by a bus. Lovely feeling if you haven’t experienced it in quite a while. I struggled through my 3.3 mile run, and barely had the energy for a quick session of strength training before work. I busted out a few push-ups, a plank and several crunches before dragging my body into the shower.

Morning Workout:

  • 3.3 mile run with post-run stretching
  • 1 set of 15, stair push-ups (I use the 4th step down)
  • 3 sets of 40, crunches – regular and both sides for the obliques
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 sets of 20, mountain climbers

Today is just one of those days where your body is wiped, you feel lethargic and you’re just in a cranky mood. What’s even worse is that I agreed to do a Boot Camp class with my coworker tonight. Oh how I’m not looking forward to that at all!

I need a massage. Is it Friday yet?


Muffin Monday

At 4 pm, the clock seemed to stop. I didn’t think 5 pm was ever going to come, and it’s not because of my job. Sometimes Mondays are just like that. Okay, they’re always like that. Luckily Jen and Nichole, my two marketing coworkers felt the same way, and decided to plant themselves in my office for the last 40 minutes, where we bonded, I mean talked business. If they want to come and talk, by all means, I’m all for it, I just wasn’t going to be the one to initiate it. 😉

When I got home, I took a phone call from Ryan, my long-lost brother. Well, not really, but he does live 8 hours away in Harrisburg, PA with his college sweetheart. We actually all went to college together. Ryan graduated in 2008, Chelsey in 2009, and myself in 2010. He was the Captain of our University’s Racquetball team, when they met his sophomore year and her freshman year. They’re my absolute favorite couple, although I am grumpy how easy their relationship has evolved. She’s his first serious relationship and I swear he’s had it so easy, never any heartbreak!

After catching up with Ry, I headed out to Target to get some baking supplies for the healthy chocolate chip brownies I found on Pinterest. They were calling my name!

Healthy Chocolate Chip Muffins

  • 1 package Devil’s Food cake mix
  • 15 oz. can of Pumpkin Puree
  • 5 oz or 2/3 cup Chocolate Chips


  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix together cake mix and pumpkin puree until fluffy
  • Add in a majority of the chocolate chips
  • Spray a muffin pan and liners with cooking spray as it will prevent the muffins from sticking
  • Spoon batter into pan.
  • Bake for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean

All You Need for a Health(ier) Treat

The batter is very thick and does not spread out in the muffin pan, so however you put it in, that’s how it will look when it comes out. They do rise JUST a little, so you can fill it to the top, as I did. These had to have been the best chocolate chip muffins I’ve ever had. It was incredibly moist, and when eaten right out of the oven, the chocolate chips were nice and gooey. After telling my Dad that I’d DEFINITELY make these again, he responded with, “Good, because I’ll definitely eat them again.”

After gobbling one up right away, I then proceeded to eat a good portion of this tub of juicy watermelon, a summer staple in my belly… I mean my house.

“Did You Just Call Me Barbie?!”

The morning sure did drag on, although it is Monday so what do you really expect? After keeping busy with my workload, I had a craving for my special treat I had in the work fridge. Normally around noon I’ll grab my Chobani (Mango or Strawberry Banana) and throw in some old-fashioned oats to fill me up before my lunch time workout. Instead of going for my Mango yogurt, I grabbed my vanilla yogurt that had sliced strawberries and bananas in it, and went all out by adding a spoonful of Bear Naked Granola and old-fashioned oats.
Result: HEAVEN! It was such a nice switch up from my regular mid-day yogurt routine.

Around 1:45 I ran across the street to Gold’s Gym, where I first ventured into the women’s gym. I had planned on spending my workout in there, running on the treadmill and doing free weights and focusing on my core, but when I stepped on the treadmill, it was touch screen and was just too high-tech for me. I like to switch up my pace throughout my run and this treadmill wanted me to set a specific pace. Eventually I’ll test this treadmill out when I have more time, but I really wanted to be able to get a good workout in, so I left the women’s gym and went into the main gym where I found a treadmill right in front of Blue Crush.
When I was in high school me and my girlfriends LOVED this movie. The scene where Kate Bosworth sprints and does pull-ups and crunches on the beach has always been my favorite scene, mainly because it motivated me back then and it still to this day motivates me. Unfortunately I started watching the movie halfway through so I missed it. Looks like I’ll have to head over to Walmart and pick it up for a measly $5 and just watch it in its’ entirety. ☺

Blue Crush

After a quick 1.8 mile run, I THEN finished my workout in the women’s gym where I only focused on my core.

Core Workout:

  • 50 sit-ups with a weight medicine ball ( broken up by: 1 set of 30 and 1 set of 20)
  • 30 side crunches on a stability ball with a medicine ball ( 15 each side)


After that, my time was up, and I ran through the parking lot, across the street, and up 69 stairs. Well, I ran 65 and limped, out of breath, up the last 4. Hey, no one’s perfect! 😉

Each workout at Gold’s I fall more and more in love with this gym, and I really think I’ll be cancelling my Planet Fitness membership sooner than expected.
Today’s post-workout lunch consisted of a pouch of Starkist Tuna Salad Chunk Light (a quick and easy meal consisting of 13 g of protein for when I need a quick fix), cherry tomatoes, and a ginormous Fuji apple. Delish!
Back to work the last hour and 45 minutes then my work day is over! Hope you all made it through too!

Beat Up Body

Last night was one of those lovely nights where I was wide awake and couldn’t fall asleep. I started a new book last night, Seating Arrangements, by Maggie Shipstead, which I think will be a really good read, but not as good as the one I just finished, By Invitation Only, written by Jodi Della Femina. I rifled through that book, and I believe it only took me a handful of days to finish. It was one of those books I just couldn’t justify putting down for the slightest moment. While Seating Arrangements is off to a slow start, granted I’m roughly about 30 pages in, so that’s not a fair claim, I’m hoping it picks up speed quickly! I love a juicy novel.
Upon waking up at 5:40 am, which came WAY too early this morning, I laced up my running shoes and went for a 3.3 mile run, which was pure hell. I’m accounting this to yesterday’s strenuous workout which put my legs to the limit; they can only handle so much! After my run, I completed several minutes of stretching and some quick strength exercises before I had to get ready for work.

Morning Workout:

  • 2 sets of 15, stair push-ups (I use the 4th step down)
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 sets of 20, mountain climbers
  • 3 sets of 40, crunches – regular and both sides for the obliques
  • 2 sets of 10 each side, standing side crunches with 8 lb dumbbells
  • 2 sets of 10, squat with overhead press, with 8 lb dumbbells

Needless to say, I’m feeling pretty beat up, which my daily horoscope kindly warned me about for the day. Funny and weird how accurate it was! My biceps and forearms are really feeling the burn today from yesterday’s rowing session. I’m thinking today’s lunch time workout will only consist of a run in between 1.5 and 2 miles, followed by a core workout in the ladies gym. I have to take it a little easy today.

Off to make some Banana Bread Walnut oatmeal and get back to work! Hoping the oatmeal will warm up my shivering body. Happy Monday!
