Yesterday was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time. After my 4 mile morning run, I headed over to my girlfriend, Lindsay’s house. We grew up in the same town, and met in middle school when I moved to New Hampshire. The first time we met was in 7th grade when we played on the Hooksett Hawks basketball team. Well, we didn’t really play as much as we were the bench warmers. We ended up going to the same high school but had different friends, and I honestly don’t remember seeing her much around the school. The high school I went to was in the City, so there were students from my town, all of the City, and other towns as well.
After high school, we ended up going to the same college, and luckily the same orientation, which we were thrilled about because we were so nervous to spend the week with no one we knew. We stuck to each other’s side all weekend, and although we weren’t chosen as roommates, we became the closest of friends in college, and when you could pick roommates starting sophomore year, you bet we lived together with 4 other girls, who we call out gypsies (see below) for the next 3 years. Lucky for me, we both live about 20 minutes from each other. It used to be 20 when she lived at her parents house, but she found the cutest little condo the next town over that she shares with her adorable kitten, Jackson.
We couldn’t decide on what to do, when she told me she found a few recipes in her Clean Eating book. Banana Bread and Blueberry Banana Muffins. After I heard that, the decision was easy. We ventured over to the city’s “classy” Walmart to pick up the ingredients we needed. One of the recipes called for Sucanet, which we had never heard of, and after Google imaging it, we decided we’d improvise (truth be told, we really didn’t want to go to shows for it).
The Banana Bread, after baking for 60 minutes, was cooked but mushy, which I believe is from all of the bananas that the recipe called for. 3 cups of bashed bananas equaled roughly 8 bananas. The blueberry muffins also called for 1 cup of mashed bananas. Talk about banana overload. I was mashed out! I think if you omitted some of the bananas, this recipe would have turned out perfect. I took a blueberry muffin to go, and I felt the exact same way, although the few bites I tried were quite tasty!
After baking, Lindsay, who was given a set of tarot cards several years back, read my cards. About a month or so ago, I broke up with the man I planned on marrying and having kids with, so we thought it was time she gave me a little insight into my future. Ever since college, she has read our cards, in which we started calling her gypsy, and then everyone just became gypsy. Now, when we email or text each other, someone is always called a gypsy. My card reading was spot on, as they usually are. There was a lot of mention about my past and trying to let go and just let “bygones be bygones.” I did like the fact that she said I had good karma coming my way.
Around 4 my Mom texted me that there was going to be a BBQ with two of my other neighbors, so I left Lindsay’s around 6 to go to that. The Sheidows, who I’ve known for the past 7 years, are moving out of their home, to build a new one in the next town over simply for their school system. The Bolducs, who live across the street, are the best of friends with the Sheidows, as their kids are all around the same age. I babysit for both families, and when there’d be snow days (when I was home and not living in California), I would get to watch ALL 5 kids for the day.
The BBQ was great. The kids were all off in groups playing games, the 3 men were maning the grill, and myself, along with the 3 ladies (Mom included) were inside drinking and eating the french fries. We’re so classy. After an amazing meal of steak tips, grilled chicken, ribs, corn on the cob, fries, 3 bean salad, and cookies for desert, we all stayed put on the couch and watched the Olympics and then America’s Funniest Home Videos (yes, the adults did choose this one).
Rumor got out (thanks Dad!) that I had sent a picture of Keith Urban in a speedo to my Mom earlier that day (her biggest crush), and pretty soon, Meg, had a brilliant idea to send nearly naked and shirtless pictures of men to my Dad to embarrass him. The next 30 minutes consisted of her sending sexy pictures of David Beckham, Channing Tatum, and some spanish man, to my Dad’s cell phone. Then things got raunchy when she sent really nasty pictures, which prompted the two of us to become fascinated with the “People of Walmart” website.
Around 9, we all headed out. The Sheidows had an early morning of packing and moving to do, and I was just plain exhausted.
Today it’s supposed to stay rainy and dreary, so I’m about to head to the gym for a nice run and a little weights, and then go to the cheap seats with my mom to see The Lucky One. Can’t wait!
