“Your Legs Don’t Need to Seize Like a Crazy Person!”

Check out what I scored at work today! A coworker brought in extra veggies from her garden and Nichole knew the health junkie I am and told me about the free stash in the kitchen. You bet your butt I hustled to the kitchen and grabbed a squash, and modeled my victory to Jen, who proclaimed me a dork. I actually left the day with two squashes, as the second squash that I left in the kitchen for someone else remained there all day. Fair game suckas!

Just Hanging in my Office with my Squash

After work, Jen and I packed up our cars with our work and work clothes and then headed into Gold’s, where we set up our equipment in the class room. We talked for about 7 minutes about relationships and exes before Kris, the instructor came in.

Boot camp was AWESOME! I’ve never been so challenged in an exercise or class, and it felt great. By the time the class was halfway through I was laughing, giggling, smiling, and just high on endorphins. I can’t even remember everything Kris made us do, but we did way too many squats, jumping jacks, jump rope, lunges, crunches, push-ups, planks, bicep curls, rows, shoulder presses with squats. There was so much more and all of these were intertwined. Jen and I joked that our boss would probably wonder what was wrong when we limped, hobbled and crawled around the office tomorrow. All I know is that this workout was more than worth it.

After class, I introduced myself to Kris, as I had emailed her last week with questions about spinning, which she had answered so informatively last week. Kris was so excited to meet me and thanked me multiple times for talking to her after class. She told me to ease into classes and not to go all out at first in spinning, and that I kicked ass tonight. I can’t wait to take her boot camp class every Tuesday, and I’m going to peruse the schedule to figure our some of her other classes that I can take and that fit into my schedule.

Successful night! Now off to go relax with my book and hopefully call it an early night. This girl is exhausted!

Frumpy Dumpy

The frumpy feeling that I woke up with has continued throughout the day, and it’s just making me feel “off,” a feeling I absolutely cannot stand. After meeting with several of our head engineers, I went back to my office to fuel up with a Chobani yogurt before my lunch time gym session.

Mango Madness

I had the “I feel gross, don’t wanna do anything” thought running through my mind, but I’ve never regretted a workout and always feel better after, so I sucked it up and went for a quick 1.3 mile run. I wanted to get a little something in, but wanted to take it easy since I have boot camp tonight with Jen. Ugh. Wah. Kill me.

After my run and shower, I was famished, so I scarfed down this AH-MAZING turkey wrap that also included grilled squash and zucchini, orange peppers, lettuce, carrots and mustard. It was so delicious and filling, although it was a little soggy from the olive oil the veggies were marinated in. That didn’t stop me from eating it, but lesson learned!

Not Sure How I Managed to Close This Sucker!

Boot Camp: A traditional class with high energy! This class combines high and low impact along with sport specific drills, light weights for toning and the use of jumping rope for coordination; it will also incorporate the use of the step.

Why oh why I asked Jen to do this with me is beyond me, but like I just said, I’ve never regretted a workout and I’m so excited to incorporate new exercises and classes into my life. Let’s just hope I don’t puke!

Chocolate Overload.. There IS Such a Thing

After a night of eating too many chocolate chips (damn baking!) and lack of sleep, I woke up feeling like I got hit by a bus. Lovely feeling if you haven’t experienced it in quite a while. I struggled through my 3.3 mile run, and barely had the energy for a quick session of strength training before work. I busted out a few push-ups, a plank and several crunches before dragging my body into the shower.

Morning Workout:

  • 3.3 mile run with post-run stretching
  • 1 set of 15, stair push-ups (I use the 4th step down)
  • 3 sets of 40, crunches – regular and both sides for the obliques
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 sets of 20, mountain climbers

Jake-a-Bean Helped Me Stretch This AM!

Today is just one of those days where your body is wiped, you feel lethargic and you’re just in a cranky mood. What’s even worse is that I agreed to do a Boot Camp class with my coworker tonight. Oh how I’m not looking forward to that at all!

I need a massage. Is it Friday yet?

Muffin Monday

At 4 pm, the clock seemed to stop. I didn’t think 5 pm was ever going to come, and it’s not because of my job. Sometimes Mondays are just like that. Okay, they’re always like that. Luckily Jen and Nichole, my two marketing coworkers felt the same way, and decided to plant themselves in my office for the last 40 minutes, where we bonded, I mean talked business. If they want to come and talk, by all means, I’m all for it, I just wasn’t going to be the one to initiate it. 😉

When I got home, I took a phone call from Ryan, my long-lost brother. Well, not really, but he does live 8 hours away in Harrisburg, PA with his college sweetheart. We actually all went to college together. Ryan graduated in 2008, Chelsey in 2009, and myself in 2010. He was the Captain of our University’s Racquetball team, when they met his sophomore year and her freshman year. They’re my absolute favorite couple, although I am grumpy how easy their relationship has evolved. She’s his first serious relationship and I swear he’s had it so easy, never any heartbreak!

Love Birds. 6 Years Strong

After catching up with Ry, I headed out to Target to get some baking supplies for the healthy chocolate chip brownies I found on Pinterest. They were calling my name!

Healthy Chocolate Chip Muffins

  • 1 package Devil’s Food cake mix
  • 15 oz. can of Pumpkin Puree
  • 5 oz or 2/3 cup Chocolate Chips

Directions:

  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees
  • Mix together cake mix and pumpkin puree until fluffy
  • Add in a majority of the chocolate chips
  • Spray a muffin pan and liners with cooking spray as it will prevent the muffins from sticking
  • Spoon batter into pan.
  • Bake for 22-25 minutes or until a toothpick inserted comes out clean

All You Need for a Health(ier) Treat

Healthy Chocolate Chip Muffins… Yummm!

The batter is very thick and does not spread out in the muffin pan, so however you put it in, that’s how it will look when it comes out. They do rise JUST a little, so you can fill it to the top, as I did. These had to have been the best chocolate chip muffins I’ve ever had. It was incredibly moist, and when eaten right out of the oven, the chocolate chips were nice and gooey. After telling my Dad that I’d DEFINITELY make these again, he responded with, “Good, because I’ll definitely eat them again.”

Warm Gooey Goodness

After gobbling one up right away, I then proceeded to eat a good portion of this tub of juicy watermelon, a summer staple in my belly… I mean my house.

Perfect on a Hot Summer Night

Alright, I have to stop eating! Time to go relax with my new book.

“Did You Just Call Me Barbie?!”

The morning sure did drag on, although it is Monday so what do you really expect? After keeping busy with my workload, I had a craving for my special treat I had in the work fridge. Normally around noon I’ll grab my Chobani (Mango or Strawberry Banana) and throw in some old-fashioned oats to fill me up before my lunch time workout. Instead of going for my Mango yogurt, I grabbed my vanilla yogurt that had sliced strawberries and bananas in it, and went all out by adding a spoonful of Bear Naked Granola and old-fashioned oats.
Result: HEAVEN! It was such a nice switch up from my regular mid-day yogurt routine.

This picture doesn’t do it justice!

Around 1:45 I ran across the street to Gold’s Gym, where I first ventured into the women’s gym. I had planned on spending my workout in there, running on the treadmill and doing free weights and focusing on my core, but when I stepped on the treadmill, it was touch screen and was just too high-tech for me. I like to switch up my pace throughout my run and this treadmill wanted me to set a specific pace. Eventually I’ll test this treadmill out when I have more time, but I really wanted to be able to get a good workout in, so I left the women’s gym and went into the main gym where I found a treadmill right in front of Blue Crush.
When I was in high school me and my girlfriends LOVED this movie. The scene where Kate Bosworth sprints and does pull-ups and crunches on the beach has always been my favorite scene, mainly because it motivated me back then and it still to this day motivates me. Unfortunately I started watching the movie halfway through so I missed it. Looks like I’ll have to head over to Walmart and pick it up for a measly $5 and just watch it in its’ entirety. ☺

Blue Crush

After a quick 1.8 mile run, I THEN finished my workout in the women’s gym where I only focused on my core.

Core Workout:

  • 50 sit-ups with a weight medicine ball ( broken up by: 1 set of 30 and 1 set of 20)
  • 30 side crunches on a stability ball with a medicine ball ( 15 each side)

After that, my time was up, and I ran through the parking lot, across the street, and up 69 stairs. Well, I ran 65 and limped, out of breath, up the last 4. Hey, no one’s perfect! 😉

Each workout at Gold’s I fall more and more in love with this gym, and I really think I’ll be cancelling my Planet Fitness membership sooner than expected.
Today’s post-workout lunch consisted of a pouch of Starkist Tuna Salad Chunk Light (a quick and easy meal consisting of 13 g of protein for when I need a quick fix), cherry tomatoes, and a ginormous Fuji apple. Delish!
Back to work the last hour and 45 minutes then my work day is over! Hope you all made it through too!

Beat Up Body

Last night was one of those lovely nights where I was wide awake and couldn’t fall asleep. I started a new book last night, Seating Arrangements, by Maggie Shipstead, which I think will be a really good read, but not as good as the one I just finished, By Invitation Only, written by Jodi Della Femina. I rifled through that book, and I believe it only took me a handful of days to finish. It was one of those books I just couldn’t justify putting down for the slightest moment. While Seating Arrangements is off to a slow start, granted I’m roughly about 30 pages in, so that’s not a fair claim, I’m hoping it picks up speed quickly! I love a juicy novel.
Upon waking up at 5:40 am, which came WAY too early this morning, I laced up my running shoes and went for a 3.3 mile run, which was pure hell. I’m accounting this to yesterday’s strenuous workout which put my legs to the limit; they can only handle so much! After my run, I completed several minutes of stretching and some quick strength exercises before I had to get ready for work.

Morning Workout:

  • 3.3 mile run with post-run stretching
  • 2 sets of 15, stair push-ups (I use the 4th step down)
  • 1 minute plank
  • 2 sets of 20, mountain climbers
  • 3 sets of 40, crunches – regular and both sides for the obliques
  • 2 sets of 10 each side, standing side crunches with 8 lb dumbbells
  • 2 sets of 10, squat with overhead press, with 8 lb dumbbells

Needless to say, I’m feeling pretty beat up, which my daily horoscope kindly warned me about for the day. Funny and weird how accurate it was! My biceps and forearms are really feeling the burn today from yesterday’s rowing session. I’m thinking today’s lunch time workout will only consist of a run in between 1.5 and 2 miles, followed by a core workout in the ladies gym. I have to take it a little easy today.

Off to make some Banana Bread Walnut oatmeal and get back to work! Hoping the oatmeal will warm up my shivering body. Happy Monday!

A Drool Worthy Night

I’ve been battling internet issues all day, as it seems every time I come on to write a post, I lose internet connection! Funny how I have connection to look at dresses on HauteLook.com. 😉

Did you all know that today is National Cousins Day? I was so excited when my cousin, Jay, sent out a mass text to all of the Lewis cousins giving us the good news. I adore my family. All of the cousins are some of the closest friends, as we do almost everything together and get mildly jealous if someone gets left out. My cousins have been there for me through so much (2 moves to Los Angeles.. oops!) and I love them more than they know. So tell your cousins how much they mean to you.

Happy Cousins Day ❤

Today was a great workout day, I felt very strong rowing and light during my run.

Sunday’s Workout:

  • 4.1 mile run
  • 11 minutes rowing at 7
  • 11 1/2 minutes stairs, 42 flights
  • 3 sets of 13 Lat Pull Downs, 55 lbs.
  • 2 sets of 9 Assisted Pull Ups, 75 lbs.
  • 40 Overhead Medicine Ball (6 lbs.) Sit Ups

After my workout, I flew home to shower quickly and whip up a tasty protein shake before heading out to the movies with my Mom. My Mom and I have had a tradition for years in which we go on movie dates. Most of the time we’ll see chick flicks, since we love our leading men, but we have on occasion seen action/thriller movies (i.e The Grey….. but our favorite man, Dermot Mulroney was in it.. yummy!)

Oh hello you sexy man beast

Since there weren’t any new releases that interested us, we ventured over to the cheap seats, where tickets are $3.50, and saw The Lucky One. I read this book about a year ago and absolutely was engrossed in it. I’ve put off seeing the movie for a long, long time, mainly because I felt like they incorrectly casted the leading man. Zac Efron, in my opinion was just wrong for the lead role on every single level. While the movie was decent, I wouldn’t watch it again, nor would I recommend the movie, unless you’re a big Zac Efron fan.

After that, I just enjoyed my Sunday evening, watched a little Friends (my favorite show!) and Olympic diving until I realized TBS was having a Matthew McConaughey marathon. Hubba hubba, that’s MY man!

Too much perfection!

Time to go eat peanut butter from the jar and drool over Matthew. 🙂

We Don’t Need to Relive What He Did”.. “But I Didn’t Even Live it the First Time”

Yesterday was one of the best days I’ve had in a long time. After my 4 mile morning run, I headed over to my girlfriend, Lindsay’s house. We grew up in the same town, and met in middle school when I moved to New Hampshire. The first time we met was in 7th grade when we played on the Hooksett Hawks basketball team. Well, we didn’t really play as much as we were the bench warmers. We ended up going to the same high school but had different friends, and I honestly don’t remember seeing her much around the school. The high school I went to was in the City, so there were students from my town, all of the City, and other towns as well.

After high school, we ended up going to the same college, and luckily the same orientation, which we were thrilled about because we were so nervous to spend the week with no one we knew. We stuck to each other’s side all weekend, and although we weren’t chosen as roommates, we became the closest of friends in college, and when you could pick roommates starting sophomore year, you bet we lived together with 4 other girls, who we call out gypsies (see below) for the next 3 years. Lucky for me, we both live about 20 minutes from each other. It used to be 20 when she lived at her parents house, but she found the cutest little condo the next town over that she shares with her adorable kitten, Jackson.

We couldn’t decide on what to do, when she told me she found a few recipes in her Clean Eating book. Banana Bread and Blueberry Banana Muffins. After I heard that, the decision was easy. We ventured over to the city’s “classy” Walmart to pick up the ingredients we needed. One of the recipes called for Sucanet, which we had never heard of, and after Google imaging it, we decided we’d improvise (truth be told, we really didn’t want to go to shows for it).

Mufffffins!

The Banana Bread, after baking for 60 minutes, was cooked but mushy, which I believe is from all of the bananas that the recipe called for. 3 cups of bashed bananas equaled roughly 8 bananas. The blueberry muffins also called for 1 cup of mashed bananas. Talk about banana overload. I was mashed out! I think if you omitted some of the bananas, this recipe would have turned out perfect. I took a blueberry muffin to go, and I felt the exact same way, although the few bites I tried were quite tasty!

After baking, Lindsay, who was given a set of tarot cards several years back, read my cards. About a month or so ago, I broke up with the man I planned on marrying and having kids with, so we thought it was time she gave me a little insight into my future. Ever since college, she has read our cards, in which we started calling her gypsy, and then everyone just became gypsy. Now, when we email or text each other, someone is always called a gypsy. My card reading was spot on, as they usually are. There was a lot of mention about my past and trying to let go and just let “bygones be bygones.” I did like the fact that she said I had good karma coming my way.

Getting my cards read. (This was during a timeout when Linds had to put the kitten in the other room so he wouldn’t mess the cards up)!

Around 4 my Mom texted me that there was going to be a BBQ with two of my other neighbors, so I left Lindsay’s around 6 to go to that. The Sheidows, who I’ve known for the past 7 years, are moving out of their home, to build a new one in the next town over simply for their school system. The Bolducs, who live across the street, are the best of friends with the Sheidows, as their kids are all around the same age. I babysit for both families, and when   there’d be snow days (when I was home and not living in California), I would get to watch ALL 5 kids for the day.

The BBQ was great. The kids were all off in groups playing games, the 3 men were maning the grill, and myself, along with the 3 ladies (Mom included) were inside drinking and eating the french fries. We’re so classy. After an amazing meal of steak tips, grilled chicken, ribs, corn on the cob, fries, 3 bean salad, and cookies for desert, we all stayed put on the couch and watched the Olympics and then America’s Funniest Home Videos (yes, the adults did choose this one).

Even though I wasn’t hungry, I could NOT pass this meal up

Rumor got out (thanks Dad!) that I had sent a picture of Keith Urban in a speedo to my Mom earlier that day (her biggest crush), and pretty soon, Meg, had a brilliant idea to send nearly naked and shirtless pictures of men to my Dad to embarrass him. The next 30 minutes consisted of her sending sexy pictures of David Beckham, Channing Tatum, and some spanish man, to my Dad’s cell phone. Then things got raunchy when she sent really nasty pictures, which prompted the two of us to become fascinated with the “People of Walmart” website.

This happened last night

Around 9, we all headed out. The Sheidows had an early morning of packing and moving to do, and I was just plain exhausted.

Today it’s supposed to stay rainy and dreary, so I’m about to head to the gym for a nice run and a little weights, and then go to the cheap seats with my mom to see The Lucky One. Can’t wait!

The Queen Just Jumped From the Sky!

Last night, with 2 big bags of popcorn to share, Mike and I cuddled up on the couch and watched the Opening Ceremony for the Olympics. We watched and watched and watched, and after what felt like 5 hours, the first Olympians FINALLY started walking. While the Opening Ceremony was entertaining, I do feel that it was a little drawn out. 2 1/2 hours just feels like a little too long to wait. I almost felt like I was at Broadway, which is an amazing experience, but I was just expecting something entirely different.

Our reaction to the Queen’s entrance

Picture time!

Mike and I watched until Italy (his country!), and then we called it a night. He ran in the Color Me Run this morning and wanted to get some rest, as did I. Although I did end up staying to watch the US team walk out, and then promptly booked it up to bed. We did have a lot of fun checking out all the handsome and delicious men from all the different countries. We decided we want to visit Austria, Greece (oh vey!), Denmark and Italy. Our favorite men came from there, and as Mike said, “Guess we’ll have to start saving up for vacation now!” I couldn’t agree more. 🙂

After playing fetch with Kip for a bit upon waking up, I went out for a nice and muggy 4 mile run. It always baffles me how I run down a nice breezy street and then once I turn the corner I run into what feels like a wall of humidity. Sometimes on these runs I believe I’m competing in the Hunger Games. Sadly there never is a Peeta standing at a street corner to hand me a cold glass of water. I just love my Peeta. I heard from my friend that there is a Peeta look-a-like in New Hampshire, and being one of the best creepers around, I’m disappointed I haven’t found him yet.

Alright, off to my girl Lindsay’s to hang out for the day. We’re either going for a walk, shopping, hanging out, or getting food. Geesh, today feels like a grab bag type of day. I don’t know what’s going to happen!

My coworker Jen asked if she could join me at Power Crunch tonight, so while she stayed a few minutes late at work, I headed over to the gym and jumped on the rowing machine before our ab class. Yesterday I rowed for 5 minutes, and today I increased it to 10 minutes, with the last 2 minutes sprinting. It felt great, and I had Jen there next to me to make the time go by quicker, but man, my hands hurt! I have a few nasty blisters on my palms, but it was so worth it!

After my 10 minutes of rowing and her 5 minutes on the elliptical, we headed over to the class room and sat around chit chatting for a few minutes while other ladies of all shapes and sizes joined in. Phew! One of my biggest concerns with joining Gold’s was that everyone would be tiny and buff. My friends say I’ll fit in because I’m fit and thin, but these girls are just so much thinner that it’s almost intimidating. But I’ve had my big girl pants on for the past two days and putting those insecurities aside. I know this gym will make it worth it. There’s just something about going to a gym where almost everyone there is very determined and focused on being the best.

Shane was our instructor, and we’re pretty sure he’s ex-military, although not to be rude, he had a beer gut, and the way I see it is, I’d rather be in a class with an instructor who is fit. That just encourages me more, but let me tell you, he sure did put us through a rigorous ten minute ab workout. After 5 minutes, Jen turned to me and said “Oh my god, it’s only been 5 minutes!” I didn’t know whether to laugh or agree so I just made a painful looking face. I wanted to puke from the workout, it was THAT good! Hopefully I wake up with tight core muscles. I secretly love that feeling, makes you know you pushed yourself the day before.

My best friend, Mike is coming over right now to watch the Olympics. We’re so excited! Do you guys think the Olympics makes you want to increase your workouts and push yourself to extreme limits? I know it has that effect on me, and I’m sure it makes Mike feel the same way too. Anyone you guys are excited to watch compete or just certain events? I’m so excited for Track & Field and Diving. LoLo Jones is my girl!

Total girl crush!

Go LoLo!
